The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has formally inducted a new set of pharmacy technician graduates from Oyo State College of Health Sciences and Technology, marking their official entry into professional practice.
The induction ceremony, held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the College’s Eleyele campus in Ibadan, attracted key stakeholders across the health and pharmaceutical sectors. The event underscored the critical role of pharmacy technicians in healthcare delivery, with strong emphasis on ethics, competence, and quality service.
Among the dignitaries present were the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi and the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, represented by Mr Mufutau Adegboyega. The Registrar of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, Pharm. Ibrahim Babashehu Ahmed, was represented by Pharm. James Iyiola, the PCN State Director. Also in attendance were officials from the Ministry of Health, including the Permanent Secretary, Dr Akintunde Ayinde, the Oyo State Hospitals Management Board, and leaders of professional bodies including the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists (AHAPN), and the Reformed Forum of Pharmacy Technicians of Nigeria (RFTPN).
In her remarks, the Provost of the College, Pharm. Oluyemisi Oyewo, described the induction as a significant milestone for both the graduates and the nation’s healthcare system. She highlighted the vital role of pharmacy technicians in supporting pharmacists and ensuring the safe and effective management of medicines, urging the inductees to uphold professionalism, integrity, and compassion in their practice.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, noted that the induction represents a transition into a profession central to healthcare delivery. She outlined ongoing reforms in the state’s health sector, including improvements in drug supply systems, expanded access to essential medicines, and intensified efforts to curb quackery. She encouraged the new professionals to remain committed to ethical standards, continuous learning, and dedicated service.
Chairman of the Governing Council, Babatunde Olaniyan, described the occasion as a defining moment in healthcare development. He commended the support of the government and regulatory bodies while advising the inductees to avoid unethical practices and embrace lifelong learning.
The ceremony featured the formal presentation of candidates by the Head of Department, Pharm. Olanike Abimbola, followed by the administration of the Oath by Pharm. James Iyiola on behalf of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of awards to outstanding graduates and goodwill messages from notable stakeholders such as the Chairman , Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Oyo State branch, Pharm. Col. (Rtd) Olusegun Ajanaku, Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Ministry of Health, Pharm. Moses Adewole, Pharm. Dr. Abideen Ganiyu, Mr Leye Fadiran, the State Chairman of the Reformed Forum of Pharmacy Technicians of Nigeria and a Former Chief Judge of Oyo State, Rtd. Justice (Dr) Munta Abimbola.
Speaking on behalf of the inductees, the overall best graduating student, Mariam Omotola Abdulganiyu, expressed appreciation to the institution and other stakeholders, pledging a strong commitment to professionalism and ethical practice.
