Medical Laboratory Technicians Graduates Inducted at OYSCOHEST, Provost Reinforces Commitment to Quality Healthcare




The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria on April 23, 2026, inducted thirty nine (39) Medical Laboratory Technician Graduates of the Department of Medical Laboratory Technology of the Oyo State College of Health Sciences and Technology (OYSCOHEST),



Delivering the welcome address, the Head of Department of Medical Laboratory Technology, MLS Suliat Adigun Mustapha (FIPMLD), commended the graduating students for their dedication and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to producing competent and ethical professionals.



In her address, the Provost of the institution, Pharm. (Mrs) Oluyemisi Moradeke Oyewo, emphasized the importance of discipline, integrity, and continuous professional development, urging the inductees to uphold the highest standards in healthcare practice and collaborate with other healthcare professionals for better patient outcomes.



The highlight of the ceremony was the induction of the graduates into the profession, with the taking of the professional oath, which was administered on behalf of the Acting Registrar of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, Dr  Donald Ibe Ofili,  by Dr. Akinwale Akinlabi, the Director of Education of the Council, officially conferring on them the status of Certified Medical Laboratory Technicians. In his remarks, Dr. Akinlabi stressed strict adherence to professional ethics, regulatory standards, and continuous learning in an evolving healthcare landscape.



Awards of distinction were presented to outstanding graduates, with Miss Victoria Oladesu, the Best Graduating Student, delivering the valedictory speech on behalf of her colleagues. She expressed appreciation to their lecturers, parents , guardians and mentors, and admonished her peers to pursue excellence in their careers.



The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, who was represented by Dr. Akintunde Kehinde Ayinde, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, highlighted the critical role of medical laboratory professionals in accurate diagnosis and effective treatment while the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola,  represented by Mr. Mufutau Adegboyega, a Deputy Director in the Ministry,  commended the institution’s contributions to human capital development in the health sector.


The Chairman of the occasion, who is also the Chairman of the OYSCOHEST Governing Council, Rt. Hon.Babatunde Olaniyan, in his remarks,  noted the steady progress of the institution and charged the inductees to uphold excellence and professionalism as ambassadors of the College.


The event drew a distinguished audience of government officials, healthcare administrators, and industry leaders, underscoring the growing relevance of Medical Laboratory Science in strengthening healthcare delivery across Oyo State and Nigeria. Present at the ceremony was the Chairman of the Oyo State Hospitals Management Board (OYSHMB), Dr. Akin Stephen Fagbemi, represented by Mrs. U.K.Onwuka, who emphasized the need for dedication and excellence in healthcare delivery. Also in attendance were the representatives of the Director of Laboratory Services of the OYSHMB, Ministry of Health, and professional bodies such as the Association of Medical Laboratory Technicians and Assistants of Nigeria (AMELTAN), all of whom encouraged the inductees to uphold the dignity of the profession.


The event not only marked a significant milestone for the graduates but also highlighted the vital role of medical laboratory science in advancing public health outcomes in Oyo State and across Nigeria.
