The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority(OYRTMA), has commenced a statewide enforcement of QR code jacket policy, apprehending no fewer than 60 commercial motorcycles for non-compliance across parts of Ibadan.
The enforcement exercise, which officially began on Tuesday, was carried out in major locations including Mokola, Gate Bus Stop, Idi-Ape, Iwo Road, and other strategic areas within the city. Authorities say the move is aimed at strengthening regulation, improving security, and ensuring accountability among commercial motorcycle operators.
Speaking during the operation, the Chairman of OYRTMA, Major Adekoya Adesagba (Rtd), expressed strong displeasure at the continued refusal of some riders to comply with government directives.
He described the development as unacceptable, noting that the enforcement was not intended to punish operators but to safeguard lives and maintain order on the roads.
“It is unfortunate that despite repeated warnings and sensitization, some motorcycle operators still choose to disregard government directives. This is not just about compliance; it is about the safety of lives and property. Any rider who refuses to obey the law is putting passengers and other road users at risk,” he said.
Adesagba further emphasized that the agency would not tolerate any act of defiance, stressing that the enforcement would be sustained across the state until full compliance is achieved.
The Oyo State Government is committed to creating a safer and more organized transport system. We will continue to support policies that protect residents, and we expect operators to cooperate fully. There will be no hiding place for violators,” Adesagba said
Also speaking, the General Manager of OYRTMA, Commander Adeoye Adekola, warned against the use of fake QR code jackets. He advised operators who had registered with unauthorized sources to re-register through approved government channels at the Secretariat.
We have observed that some motorcycles riders using fake QR code jackets. This is illegal. We urge such operators to regularize their status immediately at the government-approved centers. Anyone found with counterfeit registration will be prosecuted in accordance with the law,he stated.
Adekoya assured residents that the enforcement exercise would continue in other zones of the agency of the state, urging the public to support the initiative as part of broader efforts to enhance safety and orderliness on Oyo roads.
