FOB Badagry Hands Over Seized Contraband to Relevant Agencies

Badagry, Lagos State – November 5, 2025: In a renewed effort to curb smuggling and other illegal activities along Nigeria’s maritime and border corridors, the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) Badagry has handed over seized contraband items to relevant government agencies in line with its enforcement mandate.

During the official handover ceremony, FOB Badagry transferred a total of 420 bags of smuggled foreign parboiled rice to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Seme Area Command, 55 bags to the NCS Western Marine Command, and 75 jerry cans of 30 litres each of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Badagry Division.

According to the Base, the items were intercepted during a series of intelligence-led operations conducted over the past weeks. These operations, officials said, were part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Navy to enforce the Federal Government’s ban on smuggling and protect the nation’s economic interests within the maritime domain and adjoining land borders.

Speaking on behalf of the Commanding Officer, Captain (NN) B.O. Omotayo, the Base Executive Officer reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to maintaining a secure and lawful maritime environment. He noted that the operations were conducted in line with the Harmonized Standard Operating Procedures (HSOP) for arrest and handover, as well as existing frameworks guiding inter-agency collaboration.

Captain Omotayo, in his remarks, emphasized that FOB Badagry would continue to strengthen surveillance and patrol efforts within its operational area to deter smugglers and other maritime offenders. He reiterated that the Base remains steadfast in pursuing the strategic objectives of the Nigerian Navy, in line with the vision of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I. Abbass.

The handover exercise, observers noted, underscores the Navy’s unwavering dedication to professionalism, inter-agency cooperation, and operational excellence in safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime and border environment.
