The Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology (OYSCOHEST), Eleyele, Ibadan, has held a two-day orientation programme for its 2026/2027 freshers, equipping the newly admitted students with essential information on academics, discipline, health, security, safety and responsible campus life.
The programme, which commenced on Tuesday, 22nd September 2026, was organised to formally welcome the students and acquaint them with the academic, administrative, health, safety, social and other essential aspects of College life.
In her welcome address, the Provost, *Pharm. Oluyemisi Oyewo*, urged the freshers to approach their studies with seriousness, discipline and a strong sense of responsibility.
The Registrar, *Mrs Dupe Ayoola*, speaking on *“General Knowledge of the College Environment,”* familiarised the students with the College environment, administrative structures and procedures, as well as expectations placed on them as members of the institution.
Delivering a lecture titled *“Beyond the Classroom: Building a Healthy, Balanced and Responsible College Life,” Prof. J.K. Ayantayo* of the University of Ibadan encouraged the students to balance their academic responsibilities with other aspects of College life, build positive relationships, behave responsibly and make constructive use of their time and opportunities.
Also speaking, *Dr Nathaniel Bello* of the University of Ibadan, in his presentation on *“Healthy Body, Healthy Mind: Student Responsibilities for Effective Learning and Academic Success,”* highlighted the link between physical and mental well-being and academic performance, urging students to cultivate healthy habits and take responsibility for their well-being.
The *Zonal Director, Department of State Services (DSS)* sensitised the freshers on *Security and Safety on Campus*, stressing vigilance, security consciousness, responsible conduct and adherence to appropriate safety measures within and around the College.
Representatives of the *National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)* also sensitised the students on *Drug Use and Misuse*, highlighting the dangers of drug misuse and abuse and their potential consequences for students’ health, academic activities and future prospects. The students were encouraged to make responsible choices and avoid drug-related activities.
The first day ended with a session on *Payment of School Fees* by the Bursar, *Mrs Adeola Olanase*, who explained school fee payment and related financial procedures to enable the freshers to understand their financial obligations to the College.
The second day, Wednesday, 23rd September 2026, featured further presentations on health, safety, discipline, accommodation, skills acquisition, sanitation, student welfare and academic resources.
*Mrs Lucy Eniola*, speaking on *“Sexual Behaviour Among Young Adults: Risks, Prevention and Responsible Decision-Making,”* sensitised the students to associated risks and the importance of making informed and responsible decisions.
On *“Fire, Safety and Prevention,” Engr. Olatunbosun,* Director, Training, Planning and Research, Oyo State Fire Agency, educated the students on fire prevention, safety awareness and appropriate responses to fire-related emergencies, urging them to develop safety-conscious habits.
The representative of the *Chairman, Students’ Disciplinary Committee*, Mrs Folasade Soyemi also familiarised the freshers with the *College Rules and Regulations*, emphasising discipline, compliance with institutional regulations and responsible behaviour.
A *Health Talk* delivered by *Mr Ojo, Branch Secretary, Nigerian Red Cross*, provided the students with useful health and safety information while stressing personal responsibility for their health and well-being.
Addressing *“Hostel Accommodation: Matters Arising,” Mr Tunbosun Popoola,* Chairman, Hostel Committee, briefed the students on accommodation matters and their responsibilities and conduct within the hostel environment.
The representative of the Coordinator, Entrepreneurship Unit, *Mrs Hadassah Olugbade*, speaking on the *“Importance/Relevance of Skill Acquisition Programme to the Healthcare Profession,”* highlighted the value of acquiring practical and entrepreneurial skills alongside formal academic training to prepare students for opportunities within and beyond the healthcare profession.
Similarly, *Mr O.N. Onifade,* Head of Department, Environmental Health, addressed the students on *College Environmental Sanitation Activities*, stressing environmental cleanliness and students’ responsibility in maintaining a healthy and conducive College environment.
The Dean, Students’ Affairs, *Mr Amos Ojewale*, briefed the freshers on *Students’ Affairs Matters*, including student welfare, responsibilities and interaction with the Students’ Affairs Unit.
The programme concluded with a session on *Library Registration, Rules and Regulations* by the College Librarian, *Mr E.O. Akinsoji*, who explained registration procedures and the rules governing the use of library facilities and resources.
The two-day orientation provided the freshers with comprehensive information on the College’s academic and administrative structure, expected standards of conduct, health and safety practices, security consciousness, financial obligations, accommodation, entrepreneurship, environmental sanitation, student welfare and effective use of academic resources.
*At the end of the programme, the freshers were better equipped to navigate College life responsibly, make informed decisions and pursue their academic goals with discipline, confidence and a clear understanding of the opportunities and responsibilities before them.*
Meanwhile admission is still in progress for these following Courses :
National Diploma and Higher National Diploma, Nutrition and Dietetics, Health Information Management, Environmental Health Technology and Dental Therapy.
Other courses include Medical Store Management and Medical Imaging /X-Ray Technician programme.
In the meantime, a lifetime Achievement Award had been conferred on the Provost of Oyo State College of Health Sciences and Technology Eleyele Ibadan, Mrs Oluyemisi Oyewo by Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria Oyo State Chapter to mark 2026 World Pharmacists Day .
The event held at a Private Event Centre Ring Road , Ibadan attracted eminent personalities from all walks of life
Responding ,the College Provost ,Mrs Oluyemisi Oyewo appreciated the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria Oyo State Chapter for the Award describing it as an impetus to do more in her chosen career for the benefit of mankind .
She however dedicated the Award to the entire College Community thanking the Governing Council ,the Management ,the Staff and the entire Staff for their cooperation and support .
