We'll Deliver Real Governance To Osun people -Oriolowo

 Former senator and one of the leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Osun State, Hon. Adelere Oriolowo, has assured that the ADC is ready to provide lasting solutions to the challenges facing the people of Osun.

Speaking during an interview in Osogbo, the state capital, Oriolowo expressed confidence that the ADC would emerge victorious in the forthcoming governorship election, noting that the party has continued to receive overwhelming support from residents across the state.

> “The ADC will win the coming governorship election in Osun because we are the people’s choice. You can see how warmly the people received us when we introduced the party in the state,” he said.

Oriolowo described the ADC as a true progressive party that manages internal affairs with care and fairness to prevent division among its members.

> “The party may be new, but the people in it are not new. If we win the election, we will continue the good legacies we have laid before, and where necessary, make changes that will ensure the people of Osun enjoy the true dividends of democracy,” he added.

The former senator also called on residents to register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and prepare to participate actively in the coming elections. He urged Osun citizens to register as members of the ADC once the party begins its membership registration exercise.

> “A vote for ADC is a vote for your future. We are bringing real governance, not business as usual,” Oriolowo said. “We in ADC are project managers, not business managers. Over 90 percent of politicians are business managers who focus on profit. But as project managers, we focus on impact — we want to positively transform the lives of the people we govern.”

He further stated that the ADC is made up of highly intelligent and visionary individuals who are committed to serving the people with honesty and competence.

> “We are coming for a government of the people and for the people,” Oriolowo affirmed.

OYSCOHEST Public Health Nursing Department Leads Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign in Collaboration with ABC Foundation and UCH

The Department of Public Health Nursing, Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology, (OYSCOHEST), Eleyele, Ibadan, in collaboration with the Access to Basic (Medical) Care (ABC) Foundation and the Public Health Nursing Department, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, organized a Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign on October 29, 2025, to educate women on the importance of early detection, prevention, and regular screening.

The event, themed “From Awareness to Action: Building Resilient Communities Against Cancer,” aligns with the global message “Every Story Is Unique, Every Journey Matters.”

In her opening remarks, the Head of the Public Health Nursing Department, Mrs Fatimoh Oladunni Ogun, commended the Provost, Pharmacist Oluyemisi Moradeke Oyewo, for her unwavering support and dedication to the department’s health initiatives. The Provost, represented by the College Librarian, Mr Emmanuel Olukayode Akinsoji, applauded the department for organizing the campaign in collaboration with ABC Foundation and UCH, describing it as a laudable effort with far-reaching benefits for women and the community.

Delivering a keynote address, Dr Anjola Damilola of the ABC Foundation emphasized the importance of regular breast screening for women, noting that early detection remains the most effective strategy for successful prevention and treatment.

Public Health Nurses, Mrs Mepayeda Margaret Olubunmi and Mrs Akintokun Modupe Aanuoluwa from UCH facilitated hands-on training sessions, demonstrating breast cancer screening and breastfeeding examination techniques. The sessions provided participants with practical skills to enhance self-examination practices and strengthen community health awareness.

Held at the College premises in Ibadan, the campaign encouraged participants to take proactive steps toward cancer prevention through regular screening and early medical consultation.

Meanwhile, an inaugural meeting was held between the Governing Council Chairman, Honourable Babatunde Olaniyan Akoro and members of the Executive Council of the Alumni Association of the College in the Conference Room of the College.  The meeting had in attendance the College Provost, Pharmacist Oluyemisi Oyewo and the other Principal Officers. The meeting focused on sustaining the progress of the institution and strengthening collaboration and partnership between the institution and the Alumni body. The Chairman commended the Management for maintaining peace and fostering growth, while various suggestions were presented for the continuous advancement of the College.

The economy of Oyo State has witnessed real growth on the watch of Governor Seyi Makinde with more investors coming to the state and the living standards getting better.

This was the submission of Toyin Odugbesan, Co-Convener of E Kaabo Trade Show, in an interview with The People’s Verdict.

E Kaabo is an annual event that promotes tourism in Oyo State.

She said, “In all fairness, the economy has really improved except anybody wants to say otherwise. In as much as businesses are springing up, it means that more job opportunities would also be provided. When we have people that are now working, having decent jobs, then more families can send their children to school. It trickles down. Sometimes, you might not be able to measure it directly as a percentage, but it has a whole lot of impact that it’s making at the end of the day.”

According to the tourism enthusiast, “A whole lot has happened under Governor Makinde because we now have more roads and the roads are also wider. When it comes to tourism and hospitality, accessibility is key and that is part of what is happening. Another thing is also the security. Now we have our own Amotekun, which was not there before. So it means that people can feel more secure to come into the state. There is also an upgrade of the airport, which would also drive in more traffic. Now, we have the railway working and we see a lot of tourists coming in from Lagos to Ibadan on Fridays and going back on Sundays. So, I would say that accessibility, security and the healthcare systems too are improving, I mean the state government hospitals are also improving. 

“Because of the friendly environment, we now have more investors coming into the state. We have a lot of hotels compared to before; and when you have hotels, restaurants and lounges, it means more job creation for our people. If we are talking about more job creation, it means that there is economic growth for the state. So, I would say that the things that Governor Seyi Makinde has done for the state have been able to increase the revenue for individuals, families and even the government. Even our public schools now have been upgraded. 

There’s one currently going on now around Mokola. They are already remodelling it, some furniture items are also being distributed to some of these schools and education is actually key when it comes to us having a sane society, which is part of what this administration is doing - infrastructure, the roads, we now have better roads. 

“Currently, they are even already fixing some of these roads that link the major tourism sites, even outside Ibadan. So, it’s beyond the city, it is extending to the state and all that. So they’ve been able to do a whole lot of things.”

Odugbesan, who noted that enabling environment is a precursor to business and economic growth, lauded Governor Makinde for providing the necessary environment for businesses to thrive in the state.

She added, “The more we have enabling environments, the better it is for our businesses. 

These policies are things that even future administrations can also decide to imbibe. For instance, we have the Oyo State Agenda 2040 and tourism is part of those things we’re looking at ways of improving. Tourism actually is regarded as the bedrock of any nation that decides to take advantage of it. This is really good. It is a good step towards sustainable development. Like E Kaabo actually is another initiative that started two years ago and this year is going to be the third year. E Kaabo means welcome. But in a way, it is beyond that; it shows how hospitable we can be as a people. 

“If you look at the policy that the government is currently working on, it’s the PPP, saying that let the private sector come on board and run the business of government because government has no business in doing business and the way to go is when the private sector is fully involved in the public space. So the private sector must come into the public sector to be able to work together so that we have seamless achievement and it becomes easy. 

That is when every key stakeholder will be able to work together for a sustainable development.”

The social entrepreneur described Governor Makinde as an exceptional leader. 

“He is exceptional, his administrative style is exceptional and so is his personality. This administration is good, it’s amazing and that’s the simple truth.”

LASG SET TO PRESENT 3RD EDITION OF POLICE–YOUTH DIALOGUE

 

*The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, is set to present the third edition of the Police–Youth Dialogue, a platform designed to strengthen trust and collaboration between young people and law enforcement agencies.

*In a statement issued by the Ministry’s Public Affairs Unit, the Honourable Commissioner, Mr. Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, described the dialogue as “a structured engagement aimed at building understanding, restoring trust, and addressing mutual concerns between youths and the police.”*He noted that the initiative, which began after the 2020 End SARs incident, has significantly improved relations between both groups and promoted effective community policing.*

*Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Pharm. (Mrs.) Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, said the Ministry has made adequate arrangements to make this year’s edition “bigger and better,” emphasizing that peace and security can only be achieved when all members of society — youths, adults, and elders — see themselves as stakeholders in building a safe and stable Lagos.*

Oyo NUJ Election: 14 Candidates Sign Peace Accord Agreement

Fourteen out of Fifteen candidates contesting for various positions in the forthcoming Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oyo State Council, on Sunday signed a peace accord at the state headquarters of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oyo State Council, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

The candidates are Comrades Adebayo Raji,(Correspondence),

Oladapo Olusola (Federal Ministry of Information), Akeem Abas(Correspondence), Atilola Abiodun(State Information), Adeniji Olamide(State Information), Adu Dayo(FRCN).

Others include Com.Imran Khalid,(Oke-Ogun),Animashaun Rofiah(NTA), Ishola Olamiposi(BCOS ) Adebayo Abdul Rofih(BCOS ),Morenikeji Moses,(FRCN), Oladipo Bosede(NFTV) Akinjola Olubode(BCOS), and Alimi Nurudeen(Nigeria Tribune) 

The only candidate absent from the signing exercise was Comrade Nwaoko Samuel of the Nigerian Tribune Newspaper.

The Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) will hold its election on December 9, 2025.

 Members will vie for key executive positions including Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Assistant Secretary, and Internal Auditor.

Addressing the gathering, the chairman of the 2025 Credentials Screening Committee, Comrade Ismail Fasasi, said the peace accord was necessary to ensure a free and fair election. 

He urged the candidates and their supporters to maintain decorum and sportsmanship throughout the electoral process.

The chairman also assured them that the committee is committed to conducting a credible election.

“On behalf of the Screening Credentials Committee, it is my pleasure to welcome you all to this significant event, the official signing of the Peace Accord for the 2025 NUJ Election,” he said.

"This gathering demonstrates your commitment to promoting peace, stability, and credibility in the electoral process.

 "The signing of this peace accord is a crucial step towards ensuring a free, fair, and transparent election. As we embark on this critical process, I urge all stakeholders to adhere to the principles outlined in the Peace Accord. Let us work together to create an environment that allows electorates to exercise their rights without fear or intimidation.”.  

In their separate remarks, the representative of the Oyo State Commissioner of Police,  ACP Coker Shado; ,former Chairman of the Oyo State Council, Mogaji Soladoye Adewole; and Chairman Oyo State Council, Comrade Demola Babalola, admonished all the candidates to run an issue-based campaign, respect the rules and decisions of the electoral process, and accept the outcome of the elections in good faith.

 

They called on the candidates to give peace a chance before, during, and after the election.

They therefore urged the Credentials Screening Committee to remain neutral, transparent, and fully committed to conducting a free and fair election.

 The event was  attended by the  Secretary Credentials Screening Committee, Com. Afolakemi Akanbi, Comrades Oluwakayode Banjo, Ismail Ogundeji, Olusegun Oyedokun, supporters, and other stakeholders.

CHRISTIANS REMINDED OF THE ACCOUNT OF THEIR STEWARDSHIP

Christians all over the world are reminded that that one day, they will give account of their stewardship whether good or bad with reference to Genesis 2 : 28

The admonition was contained in the sermon delivered by the preacher Venerable James Olu Ajayi during the Adult Harvest service at the Cathedral of St Peter Anglican church, Aremo, Ibadan on Sunday 

According to Ven. James Ajayi, Good created all living and non living things and charged man to dominate them all 

To retain their dominion, man was admonisshed to serve,obey, be faithful and honour Him so as to enjoy the five fold blessings promised by God which include blessings, favour, fruitfulness among others , the clergy further stressed 

To enjoy the God's promises, Christians should go to the drawing board and obey God's commandments on the creation of the universe, Ven. Ajayi urged the followers of Christ  

At the service,were clergy with their wives, invited guests, traditional rulers and the congregation at large

Senator Barau Honoured, Hails Senate Leader and Oluyin of Iyin

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, CON, has commended the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, and the traditional ruler of Iyin Ekiti, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeola Adeniyi Ajakaiye, for their contributions to national growth and community development.

Senator Jibrin gave the commendation on Saturday in Iyin Ekiti during the grand finale of the 2025 Iyin Day Celebration, where he was conferred with the prestigious traditional title of Aare Agbaakin of Iyin Ekiti, while his wife received the title of Yeye Aare Agbaakin of Iyin Ekiti.

In his remarks, the Deputy Senate President described Senator Bamidele - who hails from Iyin Ekiti - as a Pan-Nigerian leader whose contributions to national progress cut across sectors and regions.

He particularly lauded Senator Bamidele’s facilitation of a Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences for the community, describing it as “a testament to his unwavering commitment to the development of Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State, and Nigeria at large.”

The colourful ceremony, attended by sons and daughters of Iyin as well as dignitaries from across the country, also witnessed the conferment of traditional titles on several eminent personalities.

Those honoured included former Ekiti State Governor, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, who received the title of Asiwaju of Iyin Ekiti; Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, honoured as Oluomo of Iyin Ekiti; and Senator Olajide Ipinsagba, who was conferred with the title of Bobajiro of Iyin Ekiti, alongside his wife, who became Yeye Bobajiro.

Senator Yaqubu Danmarke was also honoured with the title of Aare Atunluse of Iyin Ekiti.

In his remarks, Senator Bamidele urged the people of Iyin, especially the youth, to continue to embrace peace and unity, noting that no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of acrimony.

Speaking at the occasion, the Oluyin of Iyin Ekiti, Oba Adeola Adeniyi Ajakaiye, described the annual Iyin Day celebration as “a moment for reflection, thanksgiving and renewed commitment to collective progress.”

According to him, this year’s event was unique for being a three-in-one celebration -  the annual Iyin Day, the 75th anniversary of the unification of Iyin Kingdom and the 5th anniversary of his coronation as the Oluyin of Iyin Ekiti.

Highlighting some of the community’s achievements in the past year, Oba Ajakaiye listed the rehabilitation of township roads, installation of solar-powered streetlights and upgrading of the palace, including the construction of a befitting palace gate. Others include the establishment of an ultra-modern Oluyin Market and improved electricity supply through the installation of prepaid meters.

He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for approving the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences in Iyin Ekiti, describing it as a landmark development for the town.

The monarch further announced the launch of a ₦1 billion Development Fund aimed at mobilizing resources for ongoing and new community projects. These include the construction of a Palace Pavilion for community engagements and social events, completion of 19 units of two-bedroom apartments and a shopping complex at Oluyin Estate, Tungba, as well as the establishment of a Community Hall of Fame.

Earlier, the Chairman, Central Organizing Committee for Iyin Day 2025, Pastor Remi Obaparusi, commended residents for living in peace.

He assured that all donations made toward the Development Fund would be fully accounted for, noting that all development projects would also be closely monitored to ensure their completion.

As part of the week-long activities preceding the grand finale, the community held an interdenominational service, medical outreach, project inauguration, health and fitness walk as well as sports and essay competitions designed to promote unity and youth development.
