OYSCOHEST Public Health Nursing Department Leads Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign in Collaboration with ABC Foundation and UCH




The Department of Public Health Nursing, Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology, (OYSCOHEST), Eleyele, Ibadan, in collaboration with the Access to Basic (Medical) Care (ABC) Foundation and the Public Health Nursing Department, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, organized a Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign on October 29, 2025, to educate women on the importance of early detection, prevention, and regular screening.

The event, themed “From Awareness to Action: Building Resilient Communities Against Cancer,” aligns with the global message “Every Story Is Unique, Every Journey Matters.”

In her opening remarks, the Head of the Public Health Nursing Department, Mrs Fatimoh Oladunni Ogun, commended the Provost, Pharmacist Oluyemisi Moradeke Oyewo, for her unwavering support and dedication to the department’s health initiatives. The Provost, represented by the College Librarian, Mr Emmanuel Olukayode Akinsoji, applauded the department for organizing the campaign in collaboration with ABC Foundation and UCH, describing it as a laudable effort with far-reaching benefits for women and the community.



Delivering a keynote address, Dr Anjola Damilola of the ABC Foundation emphasized the importance of regular breast screening for women, noting that early detection remains the most effective strategy for successful prevention and treatment.



Public Health Nurses, Mrs Mepayeda Margaret Olubunmi and Mrs Akintokun Modupe Aanuoluwa from UCH facilitated hands-on training sessions, demonstrating breast cancer screening and breastfeeding examination techniques. The sessions provided participants with practical skills to enhance self-examination practices and strengthen community health awareness.



Held at the College premises in Ibadan, the campaign encouraged participants to take proactive steps toward cancer prevention through regular screening and early medical consultation.



Meanwhile, an inaugural meeting was held between the Governing Council Chairman, Honourable Babatunde Olaniyan Akoro and members of the Executive Council of the Alumni Association of the College in the Conference Room of the College.  The meeting had in attendance the College Provost, Pharmacist Oluyemisi Oyewo and the other Principal Officers. The meeting focused on sustaining the progress of the institution and strengthening collaboration and partnership between the institution and the Alumni body. The Chairman commended the Management for maintaining peace and fostering growth, while various suggestions were presented for the continuous advancement of the College.
