Shafaudeen Boss Condoles with Ibadan Chief Imam over Brother’s Death

The Head and Founder of Shafaudeen in Islam worldwide Prof. Sabit Ariyo Olagoke has condoled with the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abdulganiyu Agbotomokekere, over the death of his younger brother, Fadilat Sheik Muritala Abubakar Gatta.

Fadilat Sheik Muritala Abubakar Gatta died on Wednesday.

Olagoke while describing the death of Baba Gatta who recently returned from Umurah as shocking, urged the Chief Imam and other members of the family to be comforted by the good life the deceased led.

He said, “I was shocked to learn of the demise of Fadilat Sheik Muritala Abubakar Gatta, younger brother of the Chief Imam of Ibadanland.

“I express my condolences to the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheik Abdulganiyu Agbotomokekere and the deceased’s immediate family.

“I also commiserate with the Muslim Ummah in Ibadanland in particular and Oyo State in general.

“Losing a loved one is always saddening but the Chief Imam and the entire family should be comforted by the good life the deceased led and the good works he did.

“It is my prayer that the Almighty Allah (SWT) will grant him Aljanah Firdaus and give those he left behind the fortitude to bear the loss.”

ADMISSION INTO OYSCOHEST FOR HND PROGRAMMES COMMENCES

Admission into Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology, Eleyele,  Ibadan for its NBTE accredited HND programmes has commenced.

Shafaudeen Boss, CRCT proffers Solution To Social Media Misuse

Worried by the negative use of the social media and it's negative effects on the masses, the founder and spiritual head of the Shafaudeen in Islam worldwide, Prof Sabit Ariyo Olagoke JP has called on parents to monitor their children properly before been influenced by friends negatively. 

Olagoke who is the president and initiator of the Centre for Religious Cooperation And Tolerance (CRCT) disclosed this during the annual symposium of the centre tittled "Protect The Youths From Social Media Abuse" held recently at the CRCT hall Wakajaye Ibadan. 

While enumerating some of the dangers of which ranges from hacking, security issues, cyber bullying and time wastage also identify addiction, health issues, depression and loneliness, distraction and untimely death. 

" Social media also aid crime and fraud and fake news is also spend fast by the social media "

Prof. Olagoke who is also the Mogaji Ogun -Elu, Aare Alasa dynasty also however stated that social media have negative impact on children through sites that can pollute them morally, spiritually and intellectually. 

The cleric however called on parents to ensure they process their children from home and train them in the way of God before they are carried away with the negative  effects of the social media .

While speaking on how the manage could be curbed Prof. Olagoke disclosed that most of the in their adolescent stage are gullible most especially those with poor parental background and that it is worst for them in an era of collapse system of the agents of socialisation. 

" It is pertinent that we re-brand Nigeria with due crecognition for those important institutions and the agents of socialisation responsibilities. Once the environment is sanitised into a disciplined and corruption free environment .Collaboration of all agents of socialisation will help to revitalise and reentrebch a durable socialisation process to a working tool status". 

During the symposium, Alhaji Abdul -Rauf Kamardeen who spoke on the paper presented by Prof. Olagoke from legal angle called in the government to put in place a law that will prevent people from using the social media to commit crime with a stringent penalty for whoever is guilty using the social media for evils. 

Mr. John Teidi a journalist who spoke from the media angle advised the youths to speak up especially the girl child if anyone is using the social media .

A social commentator and activist comrade Awa Bamiji called on  the government to create a  agencies to institutionalise social media so as to curb the menace of social media abuse. 

Dr. Ibraheem Adediran in his words called for the evaluation and research to be able to use social media effectively for the benefit of the society. 

At the end of the event prizes was awarded to the winners of the Olagoke Education Legacy O-Leg and in the primary school category 

Akinrinola Toluwanimi of Faith International School Oyo came first with 65 percent  while Akorede Azeenat from Muslim Model College, NTC, Ibadan became second with 63 points,  Adenuga Shamsudeen of Shafaudeen Comprehensive School and Oparinde Mofidat became third and fourth  with 62 and 61 points respectively. 

In the secondary school category Olurode Abdul-Razak of the Wings College, Iwo, Osun State  came first with 77percent while Adebayo Ridwan of Isale Oyo Community grammar school and Adeoti Judah of Baptist Medical secondary Centre  came second with 76points and Adeleye Aliyu Akinkunmi of Yejide School  came third with 73points and Adedoyin Samuel of Community grammar school Lalupon took the fourth position with 72 points.

Abandoned Structures Constitute Security Threats - Oyo Govt Tells Residents

The Oyo State Government has declared that some abandoned structures and properties are constituting security threats and serving as hideouts to criminals, calling on owners of such buildings to put them to use or risk the government taking them over.

The state’s Commissioner for Lands, Housing, Survey and Urban Development, Mr. William Akin-Funmilayo, gave the warning on Tuesday, when he inspected De Castle Inn on Queen Elizabeth II Road, Total Garden-Gate Road, Ibadan.

Akin-Funmilayo, who decried the rate at which miscreants and hoodlums had been using abandoned buildings as hideouts, said owners of such buildings who refuse to do the needful must be ready to forfeit them to the state.

He added that the government would make proper use of the structures for the benefit of all residents of the state.

The Commissioner, speaking shortly after the inspection tour of De Castle Inn, said the government got information from the public and security agencies that the structure had been constituting a security threat to the environment, as criminals and hoodlums usually hid there.

The security guards on duty, who addressed the Commissioner, said the hotel had been abandoned for over 10 years and had become a haven for the men of the underworld.

They claimed that the owner of the hotel is out of the country.

One of the security guards said: “The structure has been abandoned for about seven to 10 years.

“Hoodlums and miscreants do come here. I have been attacked here. The miscreants even removed some house fittings, equipment, and other accessories.”

In his response, the Commissioner said correspondence would be sent to the owner to make use of the structure immediately or it would become a property of the state government.

Speaking with journalists after the inspection, the Commissioner said: “I got information from the public and security agencies that this abandoned building is constituting a security threat to this environment and that in the night, criminals and hoodlums usually hide there.

“They go on the streets to snatch telephones, bags and other valuables from passers-by. Even additionally, it has become a home for illicit drug users whereby they trade in the illicit drugs as well as smoking different kinds of things.

“We are here to confirm what we heard, which we have seen and this place has been abandoned for the past 10 to 13 years. We are here to ensure the safety of the people living in this environment. So, we have seen for ourselves that this is completely an abandoned building.

“The government will work within the ambit of the law to take possession of the building to stop what is constituting a threat.

“We all remember the unfortunate incident that happened at Bodija. Nobody believed such a thing could happen over there. If the owner doesn’t want the building anymore, he should surrender it to the government.”

He added: “The ultimatum we issued is immediate. As I’m talking now, the owner should immediately put the building up for what it is meant for or else he or she will forfeit it.

“The state government will take over the building to prevent a threat to the security of lives and property of people living in this vicinity.

“If he is still interested in the building, he or she should put it to use immediately. Nobody can tell what will happen between now and tomorrow, so he should act with immediate effect.

“Official correspondence will be sent to the owner of the building. He or she should put the building to what use it was meant for; if he refuses, the government will take it over and use it in the best interest of Oyo State people.

“I equally will extend this message to other owners of abandoned properties in the state. If you have properties that have been abandoned, kindly put them to the primary use they are meant for or else the government will take them over.

“We cannot allow buildings not occupied or maintained to be left without government intervention.”

Beverages Workers, Traders, Others Protest FG 's Ban On Satchets, PET, Below 200ml Glass Bottles Alcoholic Drinks

The  move  made by the Federal Government through the National Agency for Foods and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to ban the manufacture, distribution and sales of alcoholic beverages in sachets, PET, and glass bottles of 200ml and below has sparked off protests from the stakeholders.

The Stakeholders that have openly protested the  ban include the Distillers and Blenders Association of Nigeria and concerned citizens represented by the Food Beverages and Tobacco Senior Staff Association and National Union of Food Beverages and Tobacco Employees (NUFBTE) as they stormed the NAFDAC Complex office, Isolo, Lagos in thousands on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 carrying placards with various inscriptions condemning the ban. 

One of the primary concerns voiced by protesters is the staggering impact on employment as they said with over a million jobs at stake, the ban threatens the livelihoods of countless breadwinners who rely on the alcoholic beverage industry for their income. 

Speaking with journalists, one of the protesters, Adeolu Badejoko said in a country already grappling with high unemployment rates, the move by the NAFDAC risks exacerbating the job crisis and pushing even more individuals into the oversaturated Nigerian labour market.

"Beyond the immediate economic repercussions, there is a genuine fear that the ban could inadvertently contribute to an increase in criminal activities, such as kidnapping and robbery", he said.

He said the unemployment has long been identified as a catalyst for crime, and removing a significant source of employment could potentially drive desperate individuals towards illicit means to sustain themselves and their families. 

Another protester, Muideen Kolawole said the government must carefully consider the broader societal implications before implementing a measure that might inadvertently compromise public safety.

He said the ban may have adverse effects on the informal economy, where many small-scale businesses operate within the alcoholic beverage sector. 

"These businesses, often run by local entrepreneurs, contribute to the economic fabric of communities and provide a source of income for numerous families. Disrupting this ecosystem without adequate alternatives could lead to a domino effect, impacting various sectors connected to the alcoholic beverage industry.

 A Public Affairs analyst based in Lagos, Comrade Ojo Olorunmola said while NAFDAC's intention to regulate and ensure public health is commendable, it is essential to strike a balance between achieving regulatory goals and safeguarding economic stability. 

He posted that rather than an outright ban, a collaborative approach involving industry stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and the government could be explored. 

"Government's blanket ban is not in the interest of the masses especially workers in the alcoholic beverages industries and petty traders and distributors who earn their living through the banned products.

"There should be a mitigating measures against unemployment before government can take such harsh decision. There is high unemployment rates in the land, government should create enabling environment for job creation before such decision.

"I call on the Federal Government to reverse the decision and ensure that the suffering masses are not further suffocated.

"Government should equip NAFDAC and Environmental officers to be up and doing in enforcing the necessary regulations guiding the production and distribution of the alcoholic beverages rather than ban the products.

"This would allow for the development of comprehensive regulations that address health concerns while preserving jobs and mitigating potential social consequences.

"It is very obvious that the ban on alcoholic drinks in sachets proposed by NAFDAC has sparked legitimate concerns regarding unemployment and its potential contribution to increased criminal activities. 

"As the government contemplates regulatory measures, a holistic and consultative approach is imperative. Striking a balance between public health and economic stability will ensure a more sustainable and effective solution for all stakeholders involved", Olorunmola said.

Governor Makinde is Doing Well in Oyo State, Dare Adeleke Celebrates All Citizens As Oyo State Celebrates 48yrs Anniversary

 

Oyo PDP Chieftain and Special Adviser on Federal Constituencies, Hon. Dare Adeleke has described the Oyo State Governor, Engineer. Seyi Makinde as the best and performing Governor in Oyo State. 

In a statement issued from his Ibadan base, Adeleke said: “Oyo has been extremely blessed with its location, its leaders over the years and most importantly its resources with human resources being its greatest pride.”

“Indeed, Oyo is foremost in most developmental attainments as our state has put Nigeria on the map as the first in progressive strides.

We have the University of Ibadan which is Nigeria’s foremost and first tertiary institution, and with it came the University Teaching Hospital, UCH Television was first broadcast in Ibadan, Oyo State with WNTV, Nigeria’s premier broadcasting station. In architecture, the Cocoa House, which was the highest building in Nigeria at its time, is still a tourist attraction till date; just to mention a few.”

“From our first governor, Dr. Lam Adesina of blessed memory through to our present governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, many of the regimes were commendable but as our dear state turns 48 years into existence, it is a special blessing from God that we have the best among the best, Seyi Makinde, the light of Oyo, Omo Titun as governor.” He said.

On security, the governor stands tall and today is regarded as a hero having championed the formation of Amotekun to protect Yoruba territories, undeterred by the huge opposition he faced at the time.

In education, he has increased the number of tertiary institutions in Oyo, built schools, paid bursaries, ensured there are books for students, and teachers are no longer gnashing their teeth over unpaid salaries.

On health, his score is nothing but excellent, with more health centers established and old ones rejuvenated. We can’t forget in a hurry his role in combating the deadly COVID -19. History will indeed speak of Seyi Makinde in glowing terms.”

On development, the progress witnessed in Oyo is outstanding. Indeed Ibadan can be counted among the best metropolitan cities in the world with modern and effective public transportation and bus stops, state of the art traffic lights with a much more civil population abiding by standard rules.

Investment in road infrastructure has been lauded by all and sundry as rehabilitation and construction of all roads has eased movement of persons and goods.

Insecurity: Olagoke Task FG To Adopt Local Security Outfits In States

The Founder, Spiritual head and grand Imam of Shafaudeen-in Islam Worldwide, Prof Sabit Ariyo Olagoke JP has called on the Fe deral Government to give due recognition to local security outfits so as to support the state governments efforts in tackling the menace of  insecurity challenges across the Federation.

The Islamic cleric who frowned at the alarming spate of killings and kidnapping by unknown gunmen across the country, also called on the judiciary  to bring all culprits to book irrespective of their status to prevent hoodlums from perpetrating further evils.

Olagoke, made the appeal in a lecture titled “Nigeria Development Revival Need: The Way Out”, delivered at the grand finale of the sects  annual Ishrat(convention) to mark it’s 41st anniversary held at it’s headquarters, Wakajaye, Ibadan  over the weekend.

Speaking further on the security situation of the country, the Islamic cleric who pointed out that the security rot impact is more felt at the grassroots than what nationally controlled agencies can effectively deal with, called for the recognition and reorganization of local or native security outfits like the Agbekoyas among others.

The religious leader, who is also the Arole Ogunelu  Aare Alasa Dynasty in Ibadanland said the creation of state police was long overdue urging the Federal Government to support the state government on the formation of the likes of Amotekun across the Federation to be more effective.

He said against the world standard or security personnel and population ratio, Nigeria is usually ranked low in terms performances.

“Above all, the Aare Ona kakanfo of Yoruba land needs to wake up, he should make use of his position on this issue of insecurity, his impact is only rhetorical never yet felt to show his relevance. He said.

While speaking on corruption, Professor Olagoke advocated for long jail term for corrupt politicians, government officials, and others to serve as deterrent for upcoming leaders. 

" However religious houses should ensure proper training of the youths in the way of God so that when they get to the position of authority the teachings will enable them to do things aright " 

"Enough of all this prophets of doom who are all out to extort money from the innocent people for their selfish interest and the government should be proactive to sanction any religious house or founder no matter their worth if they are found guilty of any criminal offence, that is the government should not spare the rod and spoil the child " Olagoke advocated. 

According to him, tackling corruption is therefore essential for governance to be effective and for government to make it easy for people to meet up with their basic needs. To realize this, power devolution to local governments to aid grassroots development must be resuscitated with anti-graft device and punitive measures for deterrence awaiting defaulting local government officials.

“Long years sentences for corrupt people in politics, government business is sacrosanct since deterrent will be like straw that broke a leg as a warning signal of correction to those that will be coming behind. Plea bargain aids and weaponizes others to be more smart and involving when it is their turn of the juicy opportunity.”

“Saudi and China detest corruption and indiscipline through compliance to the rule of law while developed world would not compromise indiscipline and corruption using technology to track offenders. Do we have such provisions here?

“Above all, Nigeria development revival is a collective responsibility for posterity sustainability and peace sake. The change mantra is feasible like in the case of Singapore. Let us have a paradigm shift because ambulance that goes with siren is for the dead. However in Nigeria, our leaders go with siren too because they are till date, worse than the dead. In the same manner greedy leaders are sick we need to pray for them to be well. Nigeria development revival need is a must for posterity sake.
