The Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology (OYSCOHEST), Eleyele, Ibadan, has successfully conducted its Students’ Union Government (SUG) election, with a new set of executives emerging through a peaceful, free and fair electoral process devoid of violence.
The election, held on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, witnessed the participation of students who exercised their franchise in an orderly and peaceful atmosphere.
At the end of the exercise, Razaq Jamiu emerged as the new SUG President after polling 205 votes to defeat Akintade Ezekiel who polled 79 votes.
Other elected executives are Ojediran Felix, Vice President; Akinola Mercy, Welfare Director; Akande Isaiah, Public Relations Officer I; Excellence Miracle, Public Relations Officer II; and Joy Mogaji, General Secretary.
Others are Akinwumi Daniel, Assistant General Secretary; Ogundeji Precious, Social Director; Taiwo Ezekiel, Treasurer; and Ayomide Emmanuel, Financial Secretary.
Similarly, Augustine Obioma emerged unopposed as Sports Director, while Azeezat Jimoh and Badejoko Rashdat were elected Auditor I and Auditor II respectively.
Speaking after the election, the Provost of the College, Mrs Oluyemisi Oyewo, congratulated the newly elected executives on their victory and urged them to see their election as a call to service and responsible leadership.
She advised the new SUG leadership to embrace dialogue and constructive engagement in addressing issues relating to students’ welfare and to shun all forms of violence, illegal confrontation and actions capable of disrupting the peace of the College.
The Provost reiterated the commitment of the College Management to providing a conducive environment for teaching and learning and ensuring the welfare and overall development of students.
Mrs Oyewo also commended the Students' Electoral Committee and the Dean, Students’ Affairs, Mr Amos Taiwo Ojewale, for their roles in ensuring the successful conduct of a free, fair, peaceful and violence-free election.
In his remarks, Mr Ojewale appreciated the College Management under the leadership of the Provost and the Governing Council, chaired by Hon. Babatunde Olaniyan, for their efforts towards the continued development of the institution.
He charged the newly elected executives to work diligently, demonstrate responsible leadership and make the welfare of students a priority throughout their tenure.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected SUG President, Razaq Jamiu, thanked the entire student body for the confidence reposed in him and the other elected executives. He particularly appreciated the Provost for her commitment to the progress of the College.
Jamiu also commended the students for conducting themselves peacefully throughout the electoral process and pledged that his administration would work towards promoting the welfare and interests of the student body.
The conclusion of the election was greeted with jubilation as students celebrated the peaceful outcome with singing and dancing.
The successful conduct of the election without violence or disruption further underscored the College’s commitment to peaceful student participation, responsible leadership, dialogue and democratic values within the institution.
