The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Barrister Hazeem Gbolarumi, on Wednesday led a massive gathering of party leaders, stakeholders and supporters in Oyo town, in a show of strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The gathering, held in the ancient city of Oyo, attracted party faithful from Atiba, Afijio, Oyo East and Oyo West Local Government Areas, with PDP chairmen and executives from across Oyo Federal Constituency also in attendance.
Addressing the gathering, Chairman of the PDP in Oyo Central Senatorial District, Hon. Adewusi Adegbola, described Gbolarumi as a stabilising force within the party, noting his contributions to sustaining the PDP during challenging periods.
Adegbola said Gbolarumi remained committed to the party at a time when some members who had benefited from its platform allegedly abandoned it.
“Barr. Gbolarumi stood firm when others walked away. At a time when some who benefited from the party abandoned it, he remained steadfast. He invested his time, resources and goodwill to keep the PDP standing in Oyo State,” he said.
He added that Gbolarumi had presented himself not merely as a governorship candidate but as a tested leader with the experience and capacity to serve the people of the state.
Also speaking, the Oyo State PDP Treasurer, Prince Lukman Adediran, commended Gbolarumi for his consistency, accessibility and commitment to party building.
Adediran said the governorship candidate had demonstrated that effective leadership required sacrifice, describing his grassroots engagement as an indication of his commitment to strengthening the party from the ward level upward.
The State Assistant Secretary of the party also described Gbolarumi as a bridge-builder and grassroots mobiliser capable of uniting members across different political interests.
Gbolarumi was accompanied by the former Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Jelili Adeleke, alongside members of the Oyo State PDP Executive Committee, including the State Chairman, Prof. Abdulraman Akinoso; Deputy Chairman, Alhaji Musilu Anibaba; State Secretary, Dr. Abiola Olaonipekun; State Women Leader, Alhaja Latifa Latifu; State Ex-Officio, Hon. Kabir Ajibola Odeyemi; State Youth Leader, Hon. Akeem Adeleke; Financial Secretary, Hon. Adekunle Olatinwo; Organising Secretary, Hon. Steven Olaniyi; and Assistant Secretary, Hon. Tolani Adio.
Other political figures at the gathering included the PDP candidate for Oyo Federal Constituency, Hon. Afolabi Idris, popularly known as Aloma; the party's State Assembly candidates for Afijio, Atiba and Oyo East/Oyo West, Hon. Salami Rafiu Tunde, Hon. Afeez Bashorun and Hon. Akeem respectively, as well as a representative of the PDP candidate for Oyo Central Senatorial District, Engr. Ayobami Akinyode Olunloyo.
The party leaders used the occasion to call for unity among members and intensified mobilisation at the polling-unit level as the party begins preparations for the 2027 elections.
The gathering ended with prayers for peace, unity and progress in Oyo State.
