The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has intensified its public sensitization campaign against street trading. The Authority warns that goods impounded during enforcement operations will no longer be returned.
OYRLEA stated that traders who display or sell goods on roadsides, setbacks, medians, and pedestrian walkways are in violation of the law and are obstructing the free movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
As part of the ongoing sensitization exercise, OYRLEA’s enforcement team visited Bodija Market, Ojoo Market, and Sango Market to educate traders on the consequences of non-compliance. The team emphasized that impounded goods will not be released under any circumstance. In addition, any trader who reports to claim impounded goods will be prosecuted in court and punished in accordance with the provisions of the law.
The Authority urged all traders to relocate their wares to designated market spaces and comply with the directive. OYRLEA warned that enforcement operations will be intensified upon the conclusion of the sensitization exercise. The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to restoring order, ensuring public safety, and keeping roads, setbacks, and walkways free of obstruction across Oyo State.
