OYSCOHEST Department of Basic Health Sciences Celebrates Health Week 2026




The Department of Basic Health Sciences at Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology (OYSCOHEST), Eleyele, Ibadan, has successfully concluded its 2026 Health Week with a  ceremony that brought together distinguished guests, staff, students, alumni and other stakeholders from within and outside the College.



The grand finale of the week-long celebration, held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the College Hall, featured a keynote lecture titled *"Harnessing Artificial Intelligence as a Tool for Promoting Healthcare Delivery,"*  highlighting the transformative role of emerging technologies in the healthcare sector.



In her welcome address, the Head of the Department, Mrs. Oladunni Ogun, expressed appreciation to the Provost of the College, Mrs Oluyemisi Oyewo,  for her visionary leadership and unwavering support for the Department. She also commended the College Management for providing a conducive environment that continues to promote excellence in teaching and learning.



Mrs. Ogun further applauded members of staff of the Department for their dedication, professionalism and commitment to the training of future health professionals, the growth and development of the Department.



Congratulating the students on the successful organisation of the Health Week, Mrs. Ogun urged them to maximise the knowledge gained from the lecture by embracing Artificial Intelligence as an innovative tool for improving healthcare delivery and professional practice.



Delivering the keynote lecture, Mr. Sunday Abioye,  an alumnus of the Department, stressed the need for Basic Health Sciences students to embrace the use of Artificial Intelligence in their professional practice. He noted that AI has become an indispensable tool in modern healthcare and encouraged students to acquire the necessary digital skills to enhance their competence, improve service delivery and achieve optimal professional performance in an increasingly technology-driven healthcare environment.


Speaking on behalf of the students, the President of the Health Technicians' Students Association, Comrade Damilola Ajibade, appreciated the Head of Department, Mrs. Oladunni Ogun, the Course Coordinator, Mr. Amos Taiwo Ojewale, and the College Management led by Mrs Oluyemisi Oyewo for their continuous support towards the academic advancement of the Department.


He also commended fellow students for their cooperation and active participation throughout the Health Week, noting that the success of the event was a reflection of teamwork and collective commitment to academic excellence.


One of the highlights of the occasion was the presentation of awards to members of the Students' Executive Council and other deserving personalities in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the Department. Among the award recipients was the Students' Coordinator and Dean of Student Affairs, Mr. Amos Taiwo Ojewale, who was honoured for his exemplary leadership, dedication and unwavering support for students.


The event also featured  cultural performances by the College Cultural Troupe, whose colourful displays entertained guests and added glamour to the celebration.


The annual Health Week serves as a platform for intellectual engagement, professional development and the promotion of innovative ideas that will shape the future of healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
