The Community Health Practitioners' Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN) has recently conducted a reaccreditation exercise for the Community Health programmes, JCHEW and CHEW at the Oyo State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Eleyele, Ibadan (OYSCOHEST).
The College Registrar, Mrs. Oladupe Ayoola, received the accreditation team on behalf of the Provost, Pharmacist Oluyemisi Moradeke Oyewo, at the Conference Room of the College.
Welcoming the team on behalf of the Provost, she commended the board for its continued support for the institution and for the recent increase in the students' quota for the two Community Health programmes of the Department.
In his remarks, the Team Lead, Mr. Frederick Teniola, informed the management that the board was in the college to carry out a professional assessment of the Community Health programmes to determine its continued accreditation and training of students.
The team inspected the available infrastructural facilities, training equipment and materials as well as the human resources. They assessed the College’s demonstration clinic, the science laboratories, the department's demonstration room, library and lecture rooms to ascertain the adequacy of the facilities available for teaching and learning.
The team also visited selected health facilities in Ibadan where Community Health students undertake their practical training.
At the end of the exercise, Mr. Teniola commended the College management for providing an enabling environment for teaching and learning, as well as the facilities made available for the department. He however, advised the management to further improve on the existing facilities, especially the infrastructure, in order to sustain the required professional standards.
Responding on behalf of the Provost, the Deputy Provost, Mrs. Omolara Fatunmbi,
appreciated the board for the visit and reaffirmed the College’s commitment to continued collaboration with the regulatory body in maintaining high professional standards in Community Health training. She also expressed gratitude to the Oyo State Government for its support towards the development of the college.
She further assured the team that the management would address the infrastructural gaps within the available resources. She added that the State Government would also assist the College in regards to upgrading the infrastructure, especially the expansion of the College library.
Other Principal officers of the institution, the College Librarian, Mr. Emmanuel Olukayode Akinsoji; the Bursar, Mrs. Adeola Olanase; and the Director of Works, Engineer Ayokunmi Ojerinde were also on ground for the exercise, as well as the Head of the Community Health Department, Mrs. Temitope Awotunde, who facilitated the inspection of facilities within the College and at affiliated health centres used for students’ practical training.
