OYSCOHEST GOVERNING COUNCIL CHAIRMAN, HON. BABATUNDE OLANIYAN, COMMENDS PROVOST AND STAFF FOR EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE

The newly inaugurated Chairman of the Governing Council of the Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology,  (OYSCOHEST), Eleyele, Ibadan, Honourable Babatunde Olaniyan, has commended the Provost, Pharmacist Oluyemisi Oyewo, alongside the Principal Officers, Management, and staff of the College, for their dedication in maintaining academic excellence and providing a conducive learning environment.

Despite facing major challenges, including inadequate infrastructure and limited funding, Hon. Olaniyan applauded the College Management's efforts in sustaining  high standards at the 92-year-old institution, established in 1933 to train middle-level healthcare professionals.

Speaking during the inaugural Council meeting held at the College’s Conference room, Hon. Olaniyan expressed satisfaction with the situation report presented to him by the  Provost and the way the Management has been able to manage the available facilities. He noted, with appreciation, the remarkable achievements made in the face of financial constraints and infrastructural deficits.

He called on the Government to assist the College in the area of infrastructural development and to jack up the monthly subvention to assist the College with the payment of staff salaries, especially with the recent recruitment of additional staff, while admonishing the Alumni Association, philanthropists, and other stakeholders to support the College by investing in its infrastructural development,  to ensure the continued growth of the institution, as the Government alone cannot fully bear the responsibility.

The Council Chairman also encouraged members of the Governing Council to contribute meaningfully towards the advancement of the College. He pledged to engage with His Excellency, the Governor of Oyo State, on critical issues affecting the College in order to seek lasting solutions.

Hon. Olaniyan further advised the College management to explore avenues of improving the internally generated revenue to address financial shortfalls, noting that government support alone may not be sufficient due to competing fiscal responsibilities.

Earlier, while presenting a report on the state of the College, the Provost, Pharmacist Oluyemisi Oyewo, outlined several challenges currently facing the institution. These include inadequate infrastructure; such as library,  laboratories,  administrative block,  staff offices, lecture rooms and hostels; insufficient monthly subvention, limited admission quota by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the professional regulatory bodies, an ongoing land dispute within the College premises among  others.

She, however, expressed gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde for the support the College has received so far, particularly in the recruitment of academic and non-academic staff  and in providing funds and logistics for the accreditation and reaccreditation of programmes by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and other regulatory bodies.

She appealed to His  Excellency to expedite the signing of the new College Bill, which was passed by the Oyo State House of Assembly in March, 2025 into Law,

She informed the Governing Council that the 2025/2026 admission process is ongoing, with the second batch of the   Entrance Examinations scheduled for the 30th and 31st of July at the College’s ICT Centre. She encouraged prospective students to apply online via www.oyschst.edu.ng.

She also advised JAMB candidates, who chose the institution as their first choice to register for the post UTME and those who would like to cross over to the College to apply for a change of institution to the College and change of course to their preferred choice.

After the deliberations, the Governing Council Chairman and the other members, accompanied by the Principal Officers, toured the College premises to inspect the available facilities.

It will be recalled that Hon. Babatunde Olaniyan and other members of the Governing Council were officially inaugurated by Governor Seyi Makinde on Friday, July 11, 2025.
