The Chairman, Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria, (APWEN), Ibadan Chapter, Engineer, Abisola Adabanija has said that the association is committed to inspiring, mentoring, and empowering women and girls through advocacy and skills Development.
She stated this during the 2025 International Women's Day with the Theme: Accelerate Action, Inspire, Empower and Advance Equality for All Women and Girls," held at the Local Government Service Training Centre, Secretariat, Ibadan.
She pointed out that APWEN is working to create an inclusive society where women engineers can thrive to contribute meaningfully to the National Development and serve as role models for the next generation through advocacy, mentorship, and skills development that aimed to break barriers and accelerate gender equality in engineering.
She said. "It is with great pleasure and a deep sense of responsibility that I welcome you all to the 2025 International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration organized by APWEN Ibadan, it is a powerful call to push forward in our collective mission for gender equality, It reminds us that change cannot wait and we must take decisive steps to create a world where all women and girls have equal rights,opportunities, and the power to shape their futures".
She continued, "APWEN is Inspiring and Advancing Women in Engineering, our vision is to create an inclusive society where women engineers can thrive, stands as a strong advocate for women's rights, pushing for a world where women and girls are free from discrimination, bias and violence, we are actively raising our voices against stereotypes, gender-based violence, female genital mutilation, rape, and other harmful practices that hinder the progress and well-being of women and girls".
"As engineers and professionals, we understand that STEM is the engine of innovation and national development, to truly accelerate action, we must create pathways for inclusion and empowerment that go beyond advocacy and translate into real opportunities".
Engineer, Mrs, Adabanija hinted further that APWEN engaged and mentored secondary school girls, hinting that, the association also encouraged girls to pursue careers that fostering an equitable society for all.
In her keynote address, a frontline women advocate from Gambia Dr. Fatoumata Gaye commended the association for educating and encouraging women and the girls in the society urging them to do more to catch them young.
Dr. Gaye admonished APWEN to always organize training programmes that would make women to be self reliant as she charged them to transform advocacy to opportunities for all women in the country.
