The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Hon (Mrs) Toyin Balogun has assured that the State Government through her Ministry is ready to collaborate more with established family courts in the State to better relationships of families and the society at large.
Hon. Balogun made this assertion during her meeting with legal counsels of the Ibadan family court Iyaganku while on familiarization tour to facilities working under the supervision of the Ministry of Women Affairs in order to identify needed areas of intervention for smooth runnings.
The family court is a special court which was inaugurated in July, 2020 with two categories, the Family High Court and the Family Magistrate Court and It's saddled with handling family related cases such as children, abuse, paternity denial and various family disputes with the use of Child Right Law and Violation Against Persons Prohibition Law 2020.
According to the Commissioner the judiciary has been given a free hand through the family court on the discharge of their duties with maximum support from State Welfare office and probation officers inorder to achieve positive results in the total rehabilitation of juvenile offenders, family reconciliation and give better life to children of broken homes.
Hon. Balogun stressed that the Governor Seyi Makinde led Government is interested in the welfare of children, youths, adults and the aged and will leave no stone unturned to make life more meaningful to them through existing laws and rights .
Earlier, the Chief Magistrate -Family Court I, Mrs. Sumbo Adetuyibi while interacting with the commissioner said the family court needs more accessors (social workers) to work with the judges by interacting with juveniles while appearing at the court inorder to be able to ascertain the truth since they have always been on the case before it's referral to the court.
The Commissioner assured them of the readiness of the Ministry to work extensively with the judiciary while urging them to reach out to her office if there is need since we are operating on mutual beneficial relationship.
On the Commissioner's entourage is the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Dolapo Popoola, some directors and staff of the Ministry.
