Stop giving false hope to your followers, submit yourself to security agencies, Ogun APC tells Adebutu

The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Friday, said the most honourable thing for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 18th governorship election, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, to do was to submit himself to security agencies over allegations of electoral fraud levelled against him.

It also  advised him to stop dishing out false hope to his followers, insisting that his alleged atrocities during the last poll would be pursued to a logical conclusion in the competent court of justice to serve as a deterrent to others.

The party was reacting to a statement in the media credited to Adebutu, where he raised issues concerning the last gubernatorial election in the state, including the involvement of a former governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, among others.

The Ogun APC in a statement by the Assistant Publicity Secretary, Olusola Ogunsanya Blessed, said the statement issued by Adebutu was laced with intent to cover up certain atrocities and change the real narrative.

It claimed that going by the tone of Adebutu's statement, the PDP chieftain and Otunba Daniel must have been embarrassed by the exposition of their alleged shenanigans and conspiracy during the last elections.

The statement read in part, “While Adebutu, in his cognitively impoverished piece dripping with vile abuse, failed woefully to defend the fact that Gbenga Daniel, against good conscience, worked for him and his party, the PDP, and betrayed the party that gave him a ticket and even sponsored him to emerge as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he tried to be clever by half by denying the allegation of bribery levelled against the former Ogun Governor with overwhelming evidence.

"For every discerning political watcher, it is crystal clear that Adebutu and Daniel were seriously embarrassed by the exposition of their atrocities in the public glare, and so the bribery, criminal conspiracy and money laundering suspect currently hibernating in a foreign country resorted to defending the indefensible and further exposing the astounding degree of moral decadence and perfidy that defines their relationship.

"Adebutu's pattern of defence in which he described Daniel as “a very rich man in his own right” obviously depicts how shallow he is despite his age. His line of thought regrettably defies critical reasoning and is a reflection of his highfalutin  and bogus persona.

"It is even more childish for the PDP guber candidate to ignorantly mention his father and Gbenga Daniel as benefactors of Governor Dapo Abiodun, astutely elevating beer parlour gossip and clueless innuendos as tools of public engagement.

"On the issue of performance and reelection of Governor Dapo Abiodun, it is surprising that a man like Oladipupo Adebutu, who is  known to be irredeemably indolent and mortally afflicted with mental laziness could accuse any government of non-performance and corruption, when he lacks the intellectual stamina to do a thorough assessment of government policies and activities."

The statement further accused Adebutu of stooping so low to be involved in alleged electoral malpractices and money laundering and brazenly compromised the electoral process.

It added that Governor Abiodun had the people solidly behind him and had since settled down for governance, urging Adebutu to summon courage and come back home to face justice.

"The most pertinent among issues raised by Adebutu in his treatise is that of acceptability and popularity of Governor Dapo Abiodun. The salient question to ask Adebutu is this: If as he claimed Governor Dapo Abiodun was not popular and couldn't have won the March 18th poll, why did Adebutu and his accomplices resort to broad-day rigging by conniving with Zenith Bank to issue 200,000 ATM verve credit cards, preloaded with N10,000 each to bribe the electorate in the state?

"A popular candidate would only have carefully monitored his votes like Governor Dapo Abiodun did, and not stooped so low as to go the way of criminality, audaciously breaching the sanctity of the electoral process like Adebutu and the PDP did.

"Finally, if Adebutu is the man he claims to be, he should summon the courage to come back home and submit himself to security agencies for prosecution. This is not the time for him to give false hope to his gullible followers.

"And to be sure, the people of Ogun State are solidly behind their Governor, and are very optimistic that  their stolen votes by Adebutu and the PDP through massive rigging will be retrieved by the Tribunal soonest," the statement added.

Appointments : Tinubu charged to reward loyal party members

A group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Movement for Good Governance, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, not to neglect members of the party who worked consistently for his election and the party in the last elections.

The group made the appeal in a statement jointly signed by its Coordinator, Comrade Segun Adewole and Secretary, Comrade Ronke Babalola, respectively.

They enjoined the President to be wary of those they described as two-faced politicians who worked against the interest of the party during the polls but are now lobbying their way to be appointed into positions, stating that now is the time to repay those who worked for the party.

According to them, there is no doubt that President Tinubu has started on a good footing with laudable policies to serve the interest of Nigerians, noting that the template of rewarding of loyal party members should be applied in filling all the political appointments.

The group while citing the case of Oyo State, stated that those who are mounting the claim of APC members today worked against the party in the last elections, maintaining that most of them do not deserve any appointment at the detriment of loyal party members.

The group said out of the gubernatorial aspirants, only Barrister Akeem Agbaje and Engineer Oyedele Hakeem Alao, that did not jump ship out of the party, stating that some apart from leaving the party also openly campaigned for the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governor Seyi Makinde while one who left even described the APC as cancerous during a radio program in Ibadan

It stated further that though Barrister Agbaje did not leave the party, he however adopted what the group described as 'siddon look' which was understandable given the process that led to the emergence of the gubernatorial candidate of the party, Senator Teslim Folarin.

The group disclosed that on the part of Engineer Alao, he was the only gubernatorial aspirant who stood solidly with the party and gave his all not only to the campaign of President Tinubu but all the candidates of the party, stating that his contributions cannot be wished away in the succeses recorded by the party during the last elections.

It said, "We want to appeal to our dear President and leader of our great party, APC, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to thread with caution in rewarding those who worked against the party during the last polls with appointments, to us people who did not work for the party do not deserve any reward but rather appointments should be for loyal party members who toiled day and night for the party.

"In the case of Oyo State, both Barrister Akeem Agbaje, who though employed siddon look approach but did not work against the party and Engineer Oyedele Hakeem Alao, a loyal party member who stood for its success by  supporting financially all the candidates of the party during the last elections, should first be rewarded by President Tinubu before any other."

The group then called on the leaders of the party that include Chief Bisi Akande; Chief Olusegun Osoba and National Assembly members led by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, to prevail on President Tinubu, not to be swayed by the sugar-coated tongues of politicians who do not mean well for the party.

What You Should Know About President Tinubu’s New Special Adviser On Revenue, Zacch Adedeji

When Mr Zacch Adedeji was appointed as the fifth substantive Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council in March 2021 by President Muhammadu Buhari, stakeholders in the sugar sector hailed the appointment as one that would redefine the growth and development of the sugar industry.

He assumed leadership of the Council with a proven track record of over 15 years of hands-on executive experience (+16 years qualified chartered accountant) in strategy, accounting and financial management, financial analysis/reporting, internal controls, change management, and people management.

Before his appointment as the Sugar Council boss, Adedeji had demonstrated capacity for service delivery when he worked as one of the youngest Commissioners in Nigeria.

In 2011, barely seven months after his 33rd birthday, he was appointed Commissioner for Finance in Oyo State becoming the youngest person to have occupied such a position. This was after he had attained managerial position few years after working diligently with an American multinational company- Procter and Gamble, (P & G). Till date, he is one of the most sought after in the state and beyond.

He is a First-Class graduate of Management and Accounting from the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and later bagged a Master of Science degree in Accounting from the same university. He is currently a doctoral student at the same university. His insatiable quest for knowledge took him to the famous Harvard Kennedy School of Government in the United States of America for an Executive Course in Economic Development.

Mr. Adedeji’s long sojourn in the private sector and a four-year stint as the Commissioner for Finance in Oyo State between 2011-2015 with unbeatable and unassailable performance records and achievements, have, undoubtedly, prepared him for the onerous task of providing the needed leadership in Nigeria’s drive to attain self-sufficiency in sugar production through the faithful implementation of the Nigeria Sugar Master Plan (NSMP).

He held a number of senior management positions while working at the Procter & Gamble Company (P&G), a renowned American multinational consumer goods corporation headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, United states of America with branches across several countries. He was General Accounting and Stewardship Manager between January 2004 to May 2006 where he led a cross-functional team to prepare and report financial statements regionally and globally through consolidated data entry tool.

Mr. Adedeji’s culture of hardwork and knack for professional excellence earned him a higher position at the P&G with his elevation as the Finance Leader-SAP (Systems Applications and Products) Implementation Project. He spearheaded the day-to-day evaluation and implementation of SAP Modules and also led a 15-person finance team to develop the internal processes for the roll out of SAP West Africa in line with the projects pre-requisites.

He later rose to the position of Corporate Finance Manager (West Africa) overseeing Treasury, Corporate/Affiliate Accounting, AP &Tax at the Procter and Gamble between August 2007 and May 2011.

While in the saddle as the Commissioner for Finance in Oyo State, he introduced a number of brilliant, forward-thinking, revenue-boosting and cost-saving reforms that pushed up the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state, plugged financial leakages, introduced best financial practices and general financial turnaround among other innovations. Mr. Adedeji, a Fellow of Chartered Accountant (FCA) is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and member, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).

Immediately he took over at NSDC, Zacch hit the ground running with series of programmes to reposition the sugar sector as encapsulated in the Nigerian Sugar Master plan.

In driving the growth and development of the sector, he has within a space of 26 months implemented series of programmes that have attracted huge investments into the sugar industry and positioned the sector as an avenue for job creation and poverty reduction.

In an interview, he described his over two-year journey at the NSDC as memorable, tasking and very rewarding.

Adedeji said, “The sugar sector is without doubt a very crucial sector to the Nigerian economy, especially in line with the economic diversification agenda of the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government. More than anything else, we at the Council are ready and have put in place all the necessary policies, measures, programmes and strategies to maximally harness all the potentials in the sector in the overall interest of our dear country.

“So, the journey has been an eye-opening experience particularly for me and members of my Management Team. We are determined to achieve our mandate as an agency of government, which is to regulate and develop the sugar sector for national prosperity.

“I inherited an organization that is both forward-thinking and very determined in the pursuit of its defined mandate and corporate objectives. I’m lucky to meet members of staff who are so dedicated, disciplined and committed to work, thereby making the whole environment friendlier and livelier than I thought.”

Vote buying: Your petition to IGP afterthought, diversionary, group slams Adebutu

A group, Ogun Integrity Vanguard (OIV), has asked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the March 18 governorship election in Ogun State, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, to present himself for trial instead of writing frivolous petitions to the police over his vote buying scandal.

According to OIV, it is disturbing that after the Federal Government had investigated their vote buying plot and charged them to court, Adebutu and some accused members of the PDP in the state are now writing petitions to the Inspector General of Police ( IGP), Mr. Usman Alkali Baba, asking him to investigate Governor Dapo Abiodun and the All Progressives Congress (APC), for vote buying too.

The group made its position known in a statement signed by its secretary, Duro Thomas, and made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Monday.

He said, “It is common knowledge that following their alleged role in facilitating vote buying during the March 18 governorship polls in Ogun State, the Federal Government  charged Hon Ladi Adebutu and a leading Deposit Money Bank, Zenith Bank Plc, together with its Managing Director, Dr Ebenezer Onyeagwu, to court for conspiracy, bribery and money laundering.

“The charges, which were filed by the Director, Public Prosecutions of the Federation, M.B Abubakar; the Assistant Chief State Counsel, Aderonke Imana and Senior State Counsel, Bagudu Sani, on behalf of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, detailed how Adebutu and the co-accused “on or about 18th of March at Ibara, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did conspire among yourselves to corruptly give gifts in form of verve prepaid cards  which had inscribed on them ‘Dame Caroline Oladuni Adebutu Memorial Endorsement Scheme for Less Privileged’ in order to induce voters to endeavour the  return of PDP candidates during the Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections in Ogun State.

“Adebutu was further accused of providing 200,000 prepaid verve cards loaded with N10,000 each and inscribed with  the same name “for the purpose of corruptly influencing voters to vote for PDP candidates” during the said elections.

“Given these incontrovertible facts, it is laughable that these people are desperately trying to push a counter narrative too late in the day. Pray,, when did they realize that APC loaded cards to buy votes? There is nothing like that in the Petition they filed.”

According to Thomas, when the PDP candidate took Governor Abiodun, to the Ogun Election Petitions Tribunal over the outcome of the March 18 polls, he never pleaded vote buying by Abiodun and APC as one of the grounds of his appeal.

He added that it is trite law that in an election case, as indeed all civil cases, parties are bound by their pleadings and the court is not a Father Christmas that would grant them what they never pleaded for.

He stated that since Adebutu never took Abiodun to court for either ballot snatching or vote buying, he could not lead evidence on it, adding that this is settled law.

According to him, “Adebutu’s pleading is that he won election, that votes were cancelled where he won, and that Governor Abiodun’s margin of victory was slim; he cannot make a 360-degree turn now and ask for something else.

“On the contrary, Dapo Abiodun and APC in their deposition mentioned his illegally acquire votes and vote buying plot  through Verve cards to manipulate the electoral process, and the fact that suspects arrested by the Nigeria Police, NSCDC and NDLEA made confessional statements that indicted the PDP candidate.

“Strangely, Adebutu  has now woken up after election to spew balderdash with a view to diverting attention away  from himself.

“He was invited by the police but he has been on the run. Now he wants the same police to act on his behalf by going after his perceived enemies based on trumped up charges. How logical is that?

“He should realize that he cannot run away from the law forever, cciting non-existent threat to life, He should present himself for trial without delay.”

June 12: Cleric Urges Yoruba Leaders To Support

A renown cleric Alhaji Ismaheel Salahudeen Amala has called on Yoruba leaders to support president Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his bid to transform the country and bring the dividends of democracy to the downtrodden masses.

" Transportation and food is very paramount to the people and if the government can open the borders for food items to be supplied the effect of the hardship will not be felt too much, also electricity should be improved upon and with electricity alone so many things will be in order" .

He however commended the president for the decisions he has made so far withing the few days he became the president while blaming our past leaders for their rush in getting freedom for Nigeria which he described as their selfish interest,

The cleric who just returned to the country from Cote'de vour remarked that the French who colonised them still live very much with them which informed their great level of development till date.

" Throughout my over one week stay I never witnessed power outage or water scarcity and we were always on the road till day break without hindrances and that is why I am calling on our government to find a lasting solution to the security problems facing Nigeria"

He however urges Nigerians to embrace love in our dealings because it is only in the atmosphere of love that the country can move forward .

"Those in government should love the people while the masses should also love and pray for their leaders"

Abiodun tasks media on subsidy removal, fake news

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has called on the media to educate Nigerians on the rationale behind the recently removed subsidy on fuel by the Federal Government.

This is as he charged the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to eliminate the menace of fake news in the profession.

Abiodun spoke on Friday in Abeokuta at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) South West Zonal Meeting and Award Ceremony where he was conferred with the Grand Patron of the Ogun State Council of the union.

The governor represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Dr. Taiwo Oluwatoyin, said many Nigerians were still critical and alarmed about the subsidy removal due to the astronomical increase in the pump price of petrol, which has also had ripple effects on transportation fares, rising cost of food items among others.

But he said the media, as information dissemination institution, must rise and live up to its responsibility as the fourth estate of the realm by informing and educating the public on the subsidy challenge, noting that the current high cost of petrol will come down with the nation's refineries working alongside the recently commissioned Dangote refinery.

He also called on the media to defend the nation’s democracy and nurture it to maturity.

Prince Abiodun, while calling on journalists to be constructive in their approach to national discourse, challenged the NUJ to weed out fake journalists and fight the scourge of fake news, which is detrimental to peace and harmony in the society.

He said, “Journalism as a profession is seen all over the world as the fourth estate of the realm after the executive, legislature and the judiciary which occupies the first, second and third place respectively. And it is on this position that we see this profession as information dissemination institution and one which unravels the hidden truth without fear or favour.

“The profession is seen as the best of all because it has a ready-made audience in the citizens who expect journalists to tell, inform and clarify the grey areas, especially as it relates to governance and happenings in their environment.

“On the other hand, the media plays a common-carrier role by providing a line of communication between the government and the people. This communication goes both ways. The people learn about what the government is doing, and the government learns from the media what the public is thinking.

“We must also realize the fact that the system of communication is the ‘nerve of the polity’ and any breakdown of the nerve may cause dysfunctional impact in the performance of the polity, thereby causing governance decay.

“A responsible media helps in the socialisation of people into citizenship, democratisation of the State and political society, institutionalization of civic culture through unfettered flow of information, and rationalized use of power in social relations."

The governor while speaking on the theme; “Sustainable Development Goal 3 : Challenges before the new Government”, said healthcare facilities in the state have undergone massive rehabilitation and intervention, including Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs), located across the 236 wards to take health care closer to the people.

He added that the massive injection of funds into the health sector by his administration in the face of dwindling resources was the realisation that the health and wellbeing of the people serve as catalysts to social economic development.

According to him, the healthcare sector in state ranks among the best in the country, stating that the present administration is committed to building on the successes recorded so far.

The governor said, “We see healthcare as an important kernel of our social contract in Ogun State. Provision of efficient health care is an integral part of our Social Welfare and Wellbeing, which is a component of our ISEYA programme. We believe that only a healthy populace can enjoy the provision of infrastructure and to tap into the available economic potentials of our dear State.

“To further underpin our commitment to the provision of qualitative health care service delivery in Ogun State, amongst the first official assignments undertaken by our Administration was to see to the general overhauling of our health sector. And for the past four years, our administration has continued to address the identified infrastructural and personnel gaps in our health sector, just like every other sector of the economy of our state.

“Today, majority of our state-owned health facilities have experienced massive rehabilitation and intervention. We also continue to invest in the rehabilitation of Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) across the 236 wards in our dear state to take health care closer to our people.

“The rationale behind all these interventions is to ensure a wholesome rejuvenation of our health care system at all levels in line with Sustainable Development Goal (Good health and wellbeing).

“We have continued to fulfil our electoral promises with every way possible. More importantly, we remain committed to our ‘I.S.E.Y.A mantra as encapsulated in our ‘Building our Future Together’ Agenda.

"Despite the dwindling allocation from the federal government, our administration continues to embark on laudable projects.”
