Commence Construction on Awee - Apaara- Apetu - Emi and its environs Roads, Oyo Assembly appeals to Makinde

 

The Oyo State House of Assembly at its Plenary Sitting on Tuesday, appealed to the Executive Governor of the State, Engr. Seyi Makinde on the need to Urgently embark on the Construction of some roads in Ogooluwa and Surulere Local Governments  of the State .

Moving motion on the  deplorable state of the roads in the area, the Honourable member representing Surulere Ogooluwa State Contituency,  Hon. Abideen Ogundare revealed that the present situation of the roads across the community demands for quick intervention inorder for the constituents to also benefit immensely in the dividends of democracy spreading across the State by the Present Administration.

Hon. Ogundare noted that its important to have good road networking in place as an impetus to drive economy development of the local Government involved through various farm produce.

 "The road which has about 150 agrarian villages in its surroundings and cultivate varied farm produce also hosts one of the biggest poultry farms in Nigeria,  Amo Farm. There is no gainsaying that this road is a good enabler of revenue to the coffer of the State"

While moving the motion,  he added that " this road despite its humpy - bumpy nature used to be a veritable means through which agricultural produce came in and exited Oyo State to other neighbouring States,  such as Osun".

The lawmaker declared that lack of good roads has led many businesses to  their untimely deaths and collapsing focuses of prospective investors in the communities. 

"Today , many businesses have died along that road  basically because it has become unpassable by vehicles. For this reason, people of Oyo State,  especially,  Ogooluwa / Surulere are counting their losses due to low patronage of their agricultural produce".

The House however appealed to the State Government,  through the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to Urgently mobilize contractors to Iresaapa - Iresaadu phase 2 , Mowolowo - Iwo Ate phase 1 and Ipeba to Ajaawa road construction sites inorder for the people around the area to also benefit maximally from the good work lined up in Omituntun  2.0 agenda of the Present Administration in the Pace Setter State.

Oyo Assembly Appeals To Makinde's Urgent Intervention Over Deplorable Condition of Wofun-Kute-Jenriyin Road, Others

 

The Oyo State House of Assembly has decried the deplorable condition of 3.5km Wofun-Kute-Jenriyin road in Lagelu Local Government area of Ibadan and other such unmotorable roads across the State and appealed to the State Government for urgent intervention. 

The House made the call Tuesday while discussing a motion brought before it by member representing Lagelu State Constituency, Hon Akintunde Olajide. 

The motion was titled "Need to eulogize His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde for infrastructural development strides under Omituntun 1.0 and make a passionate appeal for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Wofun-Kute-Jenriyin road in Lagelu Local Government and other deplorable roads in the State"

The House noted that such deplorable roads across Oyo State have crippled socio-economic activities of the people. 

Hon Akinjide Olajide in the motion said "The deplorable situation of Wofun-Kute-Jenriyin road in Lagelu LG requires urgent and adequate Government intervention. The condition of this road up to Kute/Jenriyin from Wofun junction which is about 3.5km calls for serious concern and immediate rehabilitation. The economic importance of this road to the residents of the area cannot be underestimated . The road serves not less than 17 communities and it leads to Olorunda-Abaa and to Yawiri, in Akobo. 

" The road is presently in a terrible condition and has become almost impassable. All the box curverts have been overflowed with no sign of drainage on both sides of the road. The road is ruined completely to the extent that no one can say specifically the number of lives of Okada riders with their passengers that had been lost on this road "

Hon Olajide added that the road usually becomes completely impassable during heavy downpour, stressing that it is always a death trap whenever it rains. 

The House in its resolution equally appealed to the Governor to empower the Local Government to enable them rehabilitate and reconstruct trunk 'C' roads at the grassroots level for delivery of more dividends of democracy to the people. 

In their contributions,  Hon. Olasunkanmi Owolabi (Ibadan North East 2) and Hon Babajide Gabriel (Ibadan North 2) commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his outstanding road projects during Omituntun 1.0.

They however urged the State Governor through the State Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the Oyo State Road Maintainance Agency, Oystroma to put measures in place for the reconstruction of bad roads across Oyo State.

Give more, Do More, End T.B Now, Oyo Govt, Organises Free Tuberculosis Test for Commercial Drivers

Oyo State Government, through the permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusoji Adeyanju has urged commercial drivers in the State to avail themselves for the on-going free Tuberculosis Test across the designated centres across the State.

She stated this during a flag -off ceremony of the free Tuberculosis testing week held at Ojoo Bus terminal, Ibadan.

According to him, the present administration under the leadership of Engineer Seyi Makinde has made public health one of the four cardinal pillars of the government and expanding Health care delivery to all nooks and crannies of the State.

The Permanent Secretary added that the State Government had provided a conducive environment to ensure health care services are delivered to all indigenes across the State.

He said "there are 684 health facilities across the 33 Local Government Areas of the State offering free T.B services with 16 gen-expert machines and Six T.B lamp machines across the State where Tuberculosis testing diagnosis and treatment can be addressed".

He continued "Nigeria ranks 6th among the 30th highest T.B burden countries and first in Africa in year 2022, a total of 11, 474 were diagnosed with T.B and placed on treatment, this shows that the burden of T.B is high, this calls for awareness creation, case finding by conducting free test and placing those positive on free treatment to end scourge of the disease in Oyo State."

Adeyanju maintained further that the most common symptoms of tuberculosis include persistent cough lasting for weeks or more which according to him may be accompanied by fever, night sweat, weight loss and chest pain, saying they should avail themselves with free tests and receive treatment immediately.

In his remarks, the Chairman, Park Management System, Ojoo Bus Terminal, Alhaji Wasiu Azees appreciated the State Government for giving them the opportunity to benefit from the free Tuberculosis Test in the State.

 Ministry of Education Trains 850 Stakeholders On New Teaching Methodology in Ogun

No fewer than seven hundred and fifty Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) teachers, 20 Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs), and 80 Education Officers in Ogun State, have been trained on the New Method of Teaching, to further promote efficiency and sustain an enviable education legacy that the state is known for.

The Special Adviser to the Governor in the ministry, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu,  speaking during the opening ceremony of a three-week training, organised by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology in conjunction with Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), said the training, which was the second phase of the exercise held in December 2022, was also to improve teaching and learning activities, develop teachers’ capacity, and encourage world standards educational systems.

Arigbabu noted that the training was part of the efforts of the present administration’s strides to sustain the legacies of the founding fathers of the education sector in the state, stating that the huge investment of government in the sector is yielding faster results to the extent that other states and some institutes are making contacts with the ministry to learn from its success stories.

The Special Adviser added that the new innovations introduced into science teaching have provoked the interest of learners in science subjects such as chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics thereby becoming the best, citing the example of a student, Gbolahan Azeem, of African Church Grammar School, Abeokuta who was the best  JAMB candidate in Ogun State and 4th best across the federation.

He said, "We are working tirelessly to introduce more innovations that will bring desired changes into the education sector in Ogun State."

The Project Manager, OGSTEP, Mr Fatai Osunsanya, in his opening remarks, said there is a need to intimate class teachers and other education stakeholders in the state on new ways of imparting knowledge through technology, so as to make the learners relevant and compete favourably with their colleagues in other countries of the world.

The Coordinator, Dr Olushola Odusanya, while underscoring the importance of the programme, lauded the government for the initiative aimed at upgrading the skills and techniques of teachers to the newly acceptable learning standards, noting that Ogun State is the only place in the world, where science teachers are trained continuously and consistently on their specifications.

While appreciating the government for the capacity-building event, two of the participants, Mr. Oladipo Oladapo and Mrs. Adijat Tijani, said since the introduction of the programme last December, their teaching skills, knowledge and experience have improved, promising to cascade the training to others in their schools and zones.

OYO PARA- ATHLETE WINS TWO GOLD MEDALS AT CANOEING TOURNAMENT

      

  

 A 23  year old para Nigerian athlete from Oyo State, Olasupo Temitope Hassan won two gold medals at the First African Admiral Porbeni Canoeing Competition held at Jabi Boat Club, Abuja  recently.

    

The tournament involved five African countries,,namely Senegal, Tunisia, Ghana, Sao Tome and Nigeria.

    

 Team Nigeria clinched the first position with 21 medals; 14 gold 6 silver and 1 bronze. Nigeria defeated Sao Tome which came second while Tunisia  secured the third position.

  

 Earlier the para athlete also won two gold medals at the 2022  National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State.

    

He will  participate at the  National  Trial for the qualifying Olympics taking place in Germany which is scheduled to  commence on August 17 the this year.

Channel your complaint about Abeokuta-Ibadan road to FG, Ogun govt urges Obong of Calabar

The Ogun State Government, on Friday, said the Obong of Calabar, His Royal Majesty, Edidem Abasi, directed his attack on the deplorable state of the Abeokuta-Ibadan road at the wrong quarters. 

The Obong, who is the Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), had on Thursday, lamented the poor state of some roads in the state.

But the state government, in a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Works, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, said the road in question belongs to the Federal Government.

He said the Governor Dapo Abiodun administration in Ogun State, had been giving quality and adequate attention to all roads in the state, whether federal, state or local, stating that this had led to the rehabilitation of over 400 roads.

Besides, according Akinsanya, the contract for the rehabilitation of the road has been awarded to KOPEK, which has already started work from the Ibadan end, adding that the state government started working on the road from Adatan in Abeokuta but the Federal Government directed the State Government to stop construction at Moore Junction because it asked KOPEK to take over the road.

Akinsanya noted that the state government was yet to receive major refund from the federal government on the money expended on federal roads.

He listed some of the roads to include; Ijebu-Ode-Mojoda-Epe, Lafenwa-Rounda (to be extended to Alamala), and Atan-Lusada-Agbara road, adding that part of the Sango Ota-Abeokuta road had been done, especially the Sango Ota area.

The statement read in part, "On Thursday, the Obong of Calabar and Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), His Royal Majesty, Edidem Abasi, was reported to have lamented the deplorable condition of roads in Ogun State. Narrating his unpleasant experience on the way to the university to attend some of the activities marking its 30th convocation ceremony, the Obong called on traditional rulers in the state to use their offices to appeal to Governor Dapo Abiodun to pay attention to the roads. 

"The Obong reportedly stated this at his lodge within the university campus when he played host to three traditional rulers in the state, namely the Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle; the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Saka Matemilola, and the Ajalaye of Ilogun South, Ijebu Northeast, Oba Emmanuel Olusanu.

"Without necessarily joining issues with His Majesty, there is a need to make a clarification. The road about which the revered traditional ruler spoke, namely the Abeokuta-Ibadan road, is a federal road. We are aware that it is residents of Ogun State that inhabit the area but there is still a need to set the records straight. "Interestingly, the road in question has now been awarded by the Federal Government to Kopek Nigeria Ltd.

"To be sure, the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government in Ogun State has, in line with his ISEYA agenda, been giving quality attention to all roads in the state regardless of their ownership status. 

"For instance, the Atan-Lusada-Agbara road being rehabilitated by the Ogun State government is a federal road, just like the roads in Sango-Ota which are receiving adequate attention. Others include Epe-Ijebu Ode road, Siun -Kobape-Abeokuta road .

"It is important to recognize that because of the way Ogun as a Gateway State that borders Lagos, Oyo, Ondo and the Republic of Benin is configured, it has many federal roads which the State Government are also working on.The Ogun State government has had to repair many of them and awaiting refund from the Federal Government. 

"The Obong, a Federal Government appointee, directed his plea to the wrong quarters. It is the Federal Government that has authority over the road. 

"On Ogun State’s part, the state government has been able to do over 400 kilometres of roads across the state. Indeed, there would still be work left to do if the Ogun State government devoted all its resources to reconstructing federal roads in the state. They are that extensive. 

"Our revered traditional rulers are urged to seek clarifications and make investigations into issues so that they do not direct their grievances at the wrong authority and make statements that may put government in bad light. 

"The Obong of Calabar should plead for the immediate release of funds to Kopek rather than making sweeping allegations against the Ogun State government."

NPC Commends Governor Makinde on Appointment of Adeyemo As Oyo SSG

The Oyo State Government, through the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo FAS FTWAS has urged the Management team of the National Population Commission (NPC) to continue their good working relationship with the State Government.

She stated this during a courtesy visit paid by the National Population Commission (NPC), Oyo State held at SSG's office, Secretariat, Ibadan.

She hinted that the National Population Commission NPC would continue to enjoy the good working relationship with the State Government.

She said "you are having a good time in Oyo State and I want to appreciate the honour of your courtesy visit, I can only promise that as you have been enjoying a good working relationship with Oyo State, it will continue and we look forward to collaborating with you in  every way possible".

The Secretary to the State Government appreciated the Executive Governor of Oyo State Engineer Seyi Makinde who honoured her with the appointment to serve the State Government.

"I want you to countnue interaction with my office and the Ministries Departments and Agencies accross the State where you may need their attention".

In her remarks, the federal commissioner NPC, Oyo State, Dr. Eyitayo Oyetunji who was represented by the senior public affairs officer of the commission, Mrs Fadekemi Oyewumi commended the State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde for the appointment of Professor Olanike Adeyemo as the Secretary to the State Government.
