“Lagos is one of the most suitable places in Africa where human capital development can be explored in its entirety.  As a home to one of the most dynamic and multicultural populace in the world with a value-based commercial and enterprising economy, the city represents an ideal setting for policymakers to examine the challenges and opportunities associated with human capital development on the continent”, he acknowledged.

Highlighting government interventions in the three thematic areas which are Education; Health and Nutrition; and, Labour Force Participation, in relation to this administration’s THEMES Plus Agenda, Agoro confirmed that the administration’s investment in the education sector remains paramount as all indices have shown some positive attributes that are catalyzing growth and development in the sector.

“The scale of Government investments in the health sector is designed to create new frontiers for health emergencies and promote greater inclusion by broadening access to healthcare, especially among under-served populations”, he said.

He affirmed that towards driving the labour force agenda, government has continued to pursue an enterprising society through a symbiotic public-private strategy by creating an ambience for our high workforce population to excel in all human endeavors.

“ In line with the HCD+ thematic areas and within the broader context of the THEMES+ Agenda, Lagos State is already allocating a significant portion of its budget to education, health welfare and employment. It is admirable that the State is not driving these reforms in isolation but has formed effective partnerships with private sector actors”,

African Pragmatics Association, Jehovah's Witnesses relate on global security

...As experts explore language for global peace

Delegates of African Pragmatics Association from different parts of the world on Monday gathered in Ibadan , the Oyo state capital to chart a new course, exploring potential effects of Pragmatics to curb the menace of insecurity, and terrorism on the continent .

The delegates from the continent of Africa and Europe arrived the venue of the event , Subomi Balogun Conference Centre, University of Ibadan,  in the city of Ibadan for the 3rd edition of the Association's conference with the theme: Pragmatics and Global Security .

Among the resource prividers at  the conference are the Jehovah's Witnesses, whose work involve the thorough use of translation to reach many people in the languages of their hearts .

The Regional Spokesperson for Jehovah's Witnesses , Professor Gill Adekannbi who led a team of witnesses for an exhibition of magazines , and literature in many languages at the conference described the theme of the conference as very interesting .

He explained that Jehovah's Witnesses are interested in people living peacefully with their neighbours ," but something is very crucial to people living peacefully with their neighbours , having a good relationship with God and loving their neighbours . Our publications that are available  in many languages , encourage people to do just this .

" For instance, we have our publications in about 37 Nigerian languages . When you visit our website, there are  publications in about 1100 languages . We believe that when people are able to read God's word in the languages of their hearts , they acquire a better understanding of God's word and this makes it possible for them to enjoy good relationship with God and with their neighbours. This will no doubt contribute to global security".

In his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale who is also the chief host warned that if the conference is not able to bring core solutions to the problem of global security that is ravaging Africa and the world , then there will be potential threat to the issue of global peace.

While expressing profound gratitude to leadership of the Association for the choice of University of Ibadan as venue of the conference, Professor Adebowale said " I am so pleased to be the chief host of the conference that brought the vice chancellors of the two foremost universities in the continent of Africa " .

Professor Nana Aba Appiah-Amfo , Chair/President , African Pragmatics Association ,and Vice Chancellor, University of Ghana in her submission noted that the third African perennial Pragmatics Association Conference will discuss various communications strategies found within the context of global security.

Professor Appiah-Amfo added that there can be no discussion on Pragmatics and Global Security, without taking into consideration the various languages that people use on the Continent , including the inherited European languages.

While she underscored the potential effects of indigenous languages on global security , the Vice Chancellor , University of Ghana admitted that language especially indigenous languages , play critical role in attaining global peace.

She said " Well, when we talk about language studies, about the languages we use in Africa, you will agree with me that there are so many languages in Africa, I mean, we take Nigeria alone  , even the small country of Ghana , the languages that we have is in excess of 70 , and so , we cannot have discussion on Pragmatics and global security without taking into consideration the various languages that we use on our Continent , of course that includes the European languages that we inherited .

" Indigenous languages play a critical role , these are the languages we use to communicate among ourselves, even on social media  and so this is not about English or French alone , but it is about languages which we use in Africa . Even when you take English, you will recognise that the English that we use in Nigeria , the English that we use in Ghana , we have appropriated the language now to be our own . There are certain peculiarities which distinguished this English . And so, its about the languages that we use on the continent , including our indigenous languages ."

Corroborating her argument , Professor Aderemi Raji Oyelade , the Chairman, Local Organising Committee ( LOC) of the conference noted that language is the sum total of human existence .

According to Professor Oyelade  , the use of language determines how much the people will be able to relate, and able to live in peace and how much transformation they can effect for the nation .

" But do we have the facility to understand one another . Can we have synergy, can we have harmony. All of these can be made possible practically by the tangible material which is the voice, the written text, the utterance, what we say , by our own writing because writing comes from thinking . So, language is the sum total of human civilization . And therefore, it is crucial that we mean what we say, and do what we promise", he stated.

Also, the Chairman , Abstract and Program Committee , Dr Adedoyin Aguoru while appraising the conference theme, emphasized that the conference is not just about language, applauded Jehovah's Witnesses for their use of translations to achieve desired goal of global security.

Dr Adedoyin who is also the Chairman ,Hospitality Committee noted that " if you look at it from that point of view, you will know that Pragmatics has to do with a lot more than language , interpretation of language, interpretation of context , and interpretation of problems.

" So , I think that what this conference intends to achieve is to bring it all together , so as I said I was the Chair of the Abstract Committee , we have people working on the issue of security as portrayed in the text. We have the language itself , the language of security , language of terrorism , I mean it cuts across .

" You also look at international relations , we have  papers on proverbs, proverbial sayings that also has to do with security.  For instance, there is also this presentation about the Jehovah's Witnesses Organization and their position is that when language brings people together, there will be unity , and the Bible also shows that when they were trying to put up that Tower of Babel . So, I think even resolving issues of security from that point of view is really very key . So, there is so much that this conference will eventually accomplish apart from the scholarly aspect, it's also going to influence a lot of things in the society ."

SDGs: LASG SET NEW AGENDA FOR COLLECTIVE IMPACT

The Lagos State Government has set a new agenda for sustainable development goals (SDGs) for collective impact, aiming to propel the state towards achieving these global benchmarks.

Speaking at a breakfast meeting organised by the Office of Sustainable Development Goals for members of High Commissions and Development Partners, at the Wheatbakers Hotel, Ikoyi, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat highlighted the need for a strategic partnership that will create opportunities for the holistic advancement of SDGs.

Emphasizing the imperative of building local resilience to solve SDGs challenges in the State, he noted that the administration has made significant strides in aligning its developmental policies with the global pursuit of SDGs through the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda.

“SDGs encompass a broad spectrum of challenges; we must build resilience to address poverty, inequality, climate change, and ensure inclusive economic growth. We must strengthen the capacity of our communities to overcome these multifaceted hurdles and achieve the overarching goals of sustainable development", Dr. Hamzat acknowledged.

Speaking on the theme “Fostering partnership for the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Lagos State”, the Deputy Governor acknowledged the imperative of mobilizing efforts for innovative solutions and promoting a future where the ideals of sustainable development are not just aspirations, but tangible realities for the people of Lagos and, by extension, the entire global community.

“The challenges we face – whether in eradicating poverty, ensuring quality education, promoting gender equality, or combating climate change transcend national boundaries. By fostering partnerships with your commissions and engaging stakeholders at every level, we aim to leverage diverse perspectives, resources, and best practices to accelerate progress and overcome obstacles”, he submitted.

While presenting the strategic plan of the Office of SDGs, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals, Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih, stated that in line with the visionary goals of the present administration, the office has defined 9 high-impact initiatives to achieve its mandates and take actions in 4 key priority areas to accelerate efforts for an inclusive and sustainable city.

Highlighting some of the interventions aimed at advancing the 2030 global agenda, Dr. Finnih revealed that a key strategy is to mainstream the SDG action plan across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) by integrating SDG considerations into the core functions and decision-making processes of various government bodies, ensuring a comprehensive and coordinated approach to sustainable development.

To further accelerate progress, Dr. Finnih emphasized the implementation of the SDGs lighthouse project to expedite the attainment of SDGs in underserved communities, addressing disparities, and creating a more equitable distribution of development benefits.

Speaking further, the Special Adviser pointed out that the office plans to unlock a #240 million grant over the next 3 years for transformative projects, envisioned to address critical issues that will foster positive and lasting impacts on the lives of Lagos State residents.

“Part of the strategic initiative of the office is to establish the Lagos Sustainability Summit. This summit will serve as a platform where key development partners, captains of industry, thought leaders, and other relevant stakeholders will converge to deliberate on and leverage the dynamic opportunities in Corporate and Environmental Social Responsibility (CSR and ESR) for the growth of Lagos State”, she revealed.

She added that the office will equally implement strategic social impact interventions such as the OSDGs Mental Health Project which involves creating mental health corners within the state’s tertiary institutions and establishing green areas, recreational parks, and sporting facilities in each LGA in Lagos to provide support services and improve overall quality of life and community well-being.

While advocating for strategic alliances for broader and meaningful impact, she revealed that the office will be exploring new areas of global integration to strengthen collaboration and address challenges that lie ahead.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Sustainable Development Goals, Mrs. Tolani Oshodi stated that the meeting emerges from a shared commitment to a cause that transcends borders and resonates with the global imperative for sustainable development.

“While our collective aim is to ensure that we harness the full spectrum of diplomatic influence and the myriad opportunities it presents, it is also important to leverage this collective power to forge innovative partnerships, cultivate cooperation, and strategically navigate the challenges on our path, hence, maximizing our impact on the journey towards achieving the SDGs in the dynamic landscape of Lagos State”, Mrs. Oshsodi confirmed.

The Permanent Secretary noted that in the shared pursuit of a better and more sustainable future for our people, Lagos has consistently demonstrated its commitment to pioneering innovative solutions and embracing progressive policies, adding that the resilience and dynamism of this vibrant state serve as a testament to the transformative power of collective action.

BREAKING: Residents hold protest in Ibadan over high cost of living and rising insecurity

Residents of Ibadan, Oyo State capital, on Monday hit the street to protest the skyrocketing price of food and the state of the economy.

Staged in the Mokola area of Ibadan, the state capital, placard-carrying youths in their droves chanted songs to drive home their points.

Some of the placards have inscriptions such as ‘End food hike and inflation’, ‘The poor is starving’, ‘Tinubu, don’t forget your promises’, amongst others.

Armed policemen were seen at the protest scene even as demonstrators held the peaceful rally against the economic hardship in the land occasioned by the removal of petrol subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange windows.

The police had on Sunday warned that no breach of peace would be allowed during any protest in the state.

The protest in Oyo followed others in Kano, Minna, amongst others, over economic hardship occasioned by petrol subsidy removal, food inflation, and high cost of living.

Last Thursday, President Bola Tinubu ordered the National Security Adviser, (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu; the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun; and the Director General of the Department of State Service (DSS), Yusuf Bichi; to work with governors and go after those hoarding foodstuff.

The President, who met with governors of the 36 states in Abuja last week, also ruled out the importation of food items, adding that he won’t set up a price control board.

”What I will not do is to set a price control board. I will not also approve the importation of food,” the President said.

“We should be able to get ourselves out of the situation we found ourselves in, because importation will allow rent seekers to perpetrate fraud and mismanagement at our collective expense. We would rather support farmers with the schemes that will make them go to the farm and grow more food for everyone in the country.

”We must also look at the rapid but thoughtful implementation of our livestock development and management plans, including dairy farming and others,” the President stated.

The President had also ordered the release of grains to ease the rising cost of food items but many Nigerians continue to express their displeasure over the economic hardship in the country.

The petitioner urged the Commissioner of Police to investigate and prosecute the suspects, emphasizing the need for decisive action to restore lost confidence, goodwill, integrity, and reputation for the affected company.

He cited relevant legal provisions, including Section 351 of the Criminal Code, which holds individuals publishing defamatory matter, knowing it to be false, liable to imprisonment.

The legal representatives call on websites such as Reuben Abati’s blog, Nairametrics, Opr. News, and “Our Heritage Reporter,” along with other media that carried the news, to produce evidence from the German laboratory to NAFDAC if indeed they have published factual information.

"This highlights the importance of substantiating claims and maintaining journalistic integrity in the face of serious allegations.

"Media platforms are strongly advised to fact-check any adverse information regarding our products prior to publication.

"Alternatively, such information should be forwarded to the Enforcement Department at the NAFDAC office in Apapa, Lagos.

"Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in legal consequences, as per the established rules and ethics of the law and journalism", Barrister Izunya said in the petition.

He called on the accused media outlets to provide evidence supporting the alleged unsafe nature of the intercepted product to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for verification.

He said he has a strong stance against the spread of false information and emphasizes the importance of accountability in media reporting.

When contacted on phone, the Chairman of Bullion Go - Neat Global Manufacturing Company Limited, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo said he was surprised and shocked when he read the damaging false reports about their product.

According to him, "Nobody served us any letter or notice concerning the alleged interception of our product in Germany. We approached several departments in NAFDAC and we were told there was no such complaints about our product anywhere.

"Suddenly, a blog which claimed it represented NAFDAC throw the information out and it didn't communicate with us or ask for our opinion on the matter. We believe good journalism requires hearing from all sides before publication. But we were not consulted and our opinion wasn't sought.

"As a company paying taxes to government and providing employment to Nigerians, we deserve a say in whatever is going on, or that will affect our company.

"If they believe their reports are genuine, they should bring evidence or sample of the said product that they said was not safe for human consumption. No complaints from our consumers in Nigeria about our product.

"They should produce evidence from Germany where they claimed it happened. They just want to damage our company's reputation and weaken our market. May be they have ulterior motive, we don't know yet , but when our petition is given thorough investigation, we will know those behind the dastardly act ", Ajadi Oguntoyinbo said.

Don't Attach Your Failure To Our Great Leader, Ajadi Remains Formidable NNPP Southwest Leader, Olowu Fires Oginni

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Ogun State has warned its former Chairman, Olaposi Sunday Oginni, who had earlier been expelled from the party by the National Working Committee for anti - party activities and allegations bothering on fraud, not to associate his frustrations and failure to the party leader, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo.

The party on Sunday, speaking through the state Public Relations Officer, (PRO), Comrade Omokehinde Olayemi Olowu, discredits recent allegations made by the expelled former Chairman, Oginni accusing Ajadi  of using the Police to harass and intimidate party executives.

Olowu strongly refuted Oginni's claims, labeling them as biased and unverified.

He maintained that Ambassador Ajadi has been a strength of the party not only in Ogun state but in the South West, saying he remains a dependable leader.

Olowo said Ajadi who carried the party banner as its governorship

candidate in the 2023 election, has remained steady and committed to the growth of the party in the country.

He pointed out that Oginni who was expelled for political misconduct and for selling party ideas to opposition parties, lacks credibility.

Olowu asserted that Oginni's arrest on June 6, 2023, over allegations including financial misappropriation and fraud, further discredits his standing within the party.

The NNPP PRO emphasized that Oginni's expulsion renders him unfit to speak for the party, highlighting his expulsion for anti-party activities.

He dismissed as baseless, Oginni's recent petition to the Inspector General of Police, accusing Ambassador Ajadi of orchestrating harassment though the Police.

He argued that Oginni is impersonating the National Secretary's office and emphasized that Dipo Olayokun is the legitimate office holder.

According to Olowu, Ambassador Ajadi's leadership is commendable, and the allegations against him are fabricated by the expelled members seeking retaliation.

He discredited Oginni's claim that Ajadi was using the Police to intimidate NNPP executives, stating that Police intervention were related to the verification of party and its memebers roles.

He said the Police recent invitation of those who were illegally parading themselves as party executive is not harassment.

"The self-acclaimed party chairman, Gabriel Somoye was invited by the Police to be interrogated and verified his acclaimed position.

“He honoured the invitation and was allowed to go home after promising to bring along all other petitioned members for interrogation and resolution of the dispute against the bonafide members of the party,” he said.

Olowu said Somoye never fulfilled his promise, rather called to say Oginni told him to lie that the petitioned members had traveled to Abuja.

Olowu emphasized that Prince Ibrahim Adekunle is the authentic chairman of the party in Ogun State.

Olowu recalled to the sitting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party on Thursday, April 27, 2023, where both the chairman of NNPP in Ogun State, Sunday Olaposi Oginni and his Delta State counterpart, Chief Efe Tobor were expelled from the party, with effect from the same day. He, moreover, stated how Oginni’s expulsion was upheld by the court of law.

“That both the chairman of NNPP in Ogun State, Sunday Olaposi Oginni and his Delta State counterpart, Chief Efe Tobor have been expelled from the party, with effect from Thursday, April 27, 2023.”

Consequently, the National Working Committee appointed a Caretaker Committee for Ogun state led by Prince Adekunle Ibrahim as the Chairman.

Abandoned Structures Constitute Security Threats - Oyo Govt Tells Residents

The Oyo State Government has declared that some abandoned structures and properties are constituting security threats and serving as hideouts to criminals, calling on owners of such buildings to put them to use or risk the government taking them over.

The state’s Commissioner for Lands, Housing, Survey and Urban Development, Mr. William Akin-Funmilayo, gave the warning on Tuesday, when he inspected De Castle Inn on Queen Elizabeth II Road, Total Garden-Gate Road, Ibadan.

Akin-Funmilayo, who decried the rate at which miscreants and hoodlums had been using abandoned buildings as hideouts, said owners of such buildings who refuse to do the needful must be ready to forfeit them to the state.

He added that the government would make proper use of the structures for the benefit of all residents of the state.

The Commissioner, speaking shortly after the inspection tour of De Castle Inn, said the government got information from the public and security agencies that the structure had been constituting a security threat to the environment, as criminals and hoodlums usually hid there.

The security guards on duty, who addressed the Commissioner, said the hotel had been abandoned for over 10 years and had become a haven for the men of the underworld.

They claimed that the owner of the hotel is out of the country.

One of the security guards said: “The structure has been abandoned for about seven to 10 years.

“Hoodlums and miscreants do come here. I have been attacked here. The miscreants even removed some house fittings, equipment, and other accessories.”

In his response, the Commissioner said correspondence would be sent to the owner to make use of the structure immediately or it would become a property of the state government.

Speaking with journalists after the inspection, the Commissioner said: “I got information from the public and security agencies that this abandoned building is constituting a security threat to this environment and that in the night, criminals and hoodlums usually hide there.

“They go on the streets to snatch telephones, bags and other valuables from passers-by. Even additionally, it has become a home for illicit drug users whereby they trade in the illicit drugs as well as smoking different kinds of things.

“We are here to confirm what we heard, which we have seen and this place has been abandoned for the past 10 to 13 years. We are here to ensure the safety of the people living in this environment. So, we have seen for ourselves that this is completely an abandoned building.

“The government will work within the ambit of the law to take possession of the building to stop what is constituting a threat.

“We all remember the unfortunate incident that happened at Bodija. Nobody believed such a thing could happen over there. If the owner doesn’t want the building anymore, he should surrender it to the government.”

He added: “The ultimatum we issued is immediate. As I’m talking now, the owner should immediately put the building up for what it is meant for or else he or she will forfeit it.

“The state government will take over the building to prevent a threat to the security of lives and property of people living in this vicinity.

“If he is still interested in the building, he or she should put it to use immediately. Nobody can tell what will happen between now and tomorrow, so he should act with immediate effect.

“Official correspondence will be sent to the owner of the building. He or she should put the building to what use it was meant for; if he refuses, the government will take it over and use it in the best interest of Oyo State people.

“I equally will extend this message to other owners of abandoned properties in the state. If you have properties that have been abandoned, kindly put them to the primary use they are meant for or else the government will take them over.

“We cannot allow buildings not occupied or maintained to be left without government intervention.”

Beverages Workers, Traders, Others Protest FG 's Ban On Satchets, PET, Below 200ml Glass Bottles Alcoholic Drinks

The  move  made by the Federal Government through the National Agency for Foods and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to ban the manufacture, distribution and sales of alcoholic beverages in sachets, PET, and glass bottles of 200ml and below has sparked off protests from the stakeholders.

The Stakeholders that have openly protested the  ban include the Distillers and Blenders Association of Nigeria and concerned citizens represented by the Food Beverages and Tobacco Senior Staff Association and National Union of Food Beverages and Tobacco Employees (NUFBTE) as they stormed the NAFDAC Complex office, Isolo, Lagos in thousands on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 carrying placards with various inscriptions condemning the ban.

One of the primary concerns voiced by protesters is the staggering impact on employment as they said with over a million jobs at stake, the ban threatens the livelihoods of countless breadwinners who rely on the alcoholic beverage industry for their income.

Speaking with journalists, one of the protesters, Adeolu Badejoko said in a country already grappling with high unemployment rates, the move by the NAFDAC risks exacerbating the job crisis and pushing even more individuals into the oversaturated Nigerian labour market.

"Beyond the immediate economic repercussions, there is a genuine fear that the ban could inadvertently contribute to an increase in criminal activities, such as kidnapping and robbery", he said.

He said the unemployment has long been identified as a catalyst for crime, and removing a significant source of employment could potentially drive desperate individuals towards illicit means to sustain themselves and their families.

Another protester, Muideen Kolawole said the government must carefully consider the broader societal implications before implementing a measure that might inadvertently compromise public safety.

He said the ban may have adverse effects on the informal economy, where many small-scale businesses operate within the alcoholic beverage sector.

"These businesses, often run by local entrepreneurs, contribute to the economic fabric of communities and provide a source of income for numerous families. Disrupting this ecosystem without adequate alternatives could lead to a domino effect, impacting various sectors connected to the alcoholic beverage industry.

A Public Affairs analyst based in Lagos, Comrade Ojo Olorunmola said while NAFDAC's intention to regulate and ensure public health is commendable, it is essential to strike a balance between achieving regulatory goals and safeguarding economic stability.

He posted that rather than an outright ban, a collaborative approach involving industry stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and the government could be explored.

"Government's blanket ban is not in the interest of the masses especially workers in the alcoholic beverages industries and petty traders and distributors who earn their living through the banned products.

"There should be a mitigating measures against unemployment before government can take such harsh decision. There is high unemployment rates in the land, government should create enabling environment for job creation before such decision.

"I call on the Federal Government to reverse the decision and ensure that the suffering masses are not further suffocated.

"Government should equip NAFDAC and Environmental officers to be up and doing in enforcing the necessary regulations guiding the production and distribution of the alcoholic beverages rather than ban the products.

"This would allow for the development of comprehensive regulations that address health concerns while preserving jobs and mitigating potential social consequences.

"It is very obvious that the ban on alcoholic drinks in sachets proposed by NAFDAC has sparked legitimate concerns regarding unemployment and its potential contribution to increased criminal activities.

"As the government contemplates regulatory measures, a holistic and consultative approach is imperative. Striking a balance between public health and economic stability will ensure a more sustainable and effective solution for all stakeholders involved", Olorunmola said.

Oyo PDP Chieftain and Special Adviser on Federal Constituencies, Hon. Dare Adeleke has described the Oyo State Governor, Engineer. Seyi Makinde as the best and performing Governor in Oyo State.

In a statement issued from his Ibadan base, Adeleke said: “Oyo has been extremely blessed with its location, its leaders over the years and most importantly its resources with human resources being its greatest pride.”

“Indeed, Oyo is foremost in most developmental attainments as our state has put Nigeria on the map as the first in progressive strides.

We have the University of Ibadan which is Nigeria’s foremost and first tertiary institution, and with it came the University Teaching Hospital, UCH Television was first broadcast in Ibadan, Oyo State with WNTV, Nigeria’s premier broadcasting station. In architecture, the Cocoa House, which was the highest building in Nigeria at its time, is still a tourist attraction till date; just to mention a few.”

“From our first governor, Dr. Lam Adesina of blessed memory through to our present governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, many of the regimes were commendable but as our dear state turns 48 years into existence, it is a special blessing from God that we have the best among the best, Seyi Makinde, the light of Oyo, Omo Titun as governor.” He said.

“Indeed our country has gone through and is still going through tough times. At no time than now do we need leaders with vision, compassion, and the general goodwill of the people at heart.

“His Excellency, Sey Makinde embodies all of this” Adeleke stressed, stating that: “He has brought immense progress and development, built human capital through people focused policies and tackled every challenge with diplomacy and tact.

On security, the governor stands tall and today is regarded as a hero having championed the formation of Amotekun to protect Yoruba territories, undeterred by the huge opposition he faced at the time.

In education, he has increased the number of tertiary institutions in Oyo, built schools, paid bursaries, ensured there are books for students, and teachers are no longer gnashing their teeth over unpaid salaries.

On health, his score is nothing but excellent, with more health centers established and old ones rejuvenated. We can’t forget in a hurry his role in combating the deadly COVID -19. History will indeed speak of Seyi Makinde in glowing terms.”

On development, the progress witnessed in Oyo is outstanding. Indeed Ibadan can be counted among the best metropolitan cities in the world with modern and effective public transportation and bus stops, state of the art traffic lights with a much more civil population abiding by standard rules.

Investment in road infrastructure has been lauded by all and sundry as rehabilitation and construction of all roads has eased movement of persons and goods.

“Makinde did not leave our agriculture, investors have trooped to Oyo due to dynamic government policy and their investments are yielding fruit.”

“Oyo has never witnessed such progress in such a short time and we are very grateful to God and our Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, the people’s governor, himself”. Adeleke Said.

He enjoined all Oyo citizens to carry themselves with pride wherever they find themselves because they are great people, from a long line of kings and warriors.

“I congratulate our Governor and all citizens of Oyo State and pray that God continues to bless us with good leaders like Seyi Makinde”, Adeleke said.

Insecurity: Olagoke Task FG To Adopt Local Security Outfits In States

The Founder, Spiritual head and grand Imam of Shafaudeen-in Islam Worldwide, Prof Sabit Ariyo Olagoke JP has called on the Fe deral Government to give due recognition to local security outfits so as to support the state governments efforts in tackling the menace of  insecurity challenges across the Federation.

The Islamic cleric who frowned at the alarming spate of killings and kidnapping by unknown gunmen across the country, also called on the judiciary  to bring all culprits to book irrespective of their status to prevent hoodlums from perpetrating further evils.

Olagoke, made the appeal in a lecture titled “Nigeria Development Revival Need: The Way Out”, delivered at the grand finale of the sects  annual Ishrat(convention) to mark it’s 41st anniversary held at it’s headquarters, Wakajaye, Ibadan  over the weekend.

Speaking further on the security situation of the country, the Islamic cleric who pointed out that the security rot impact is more felt at the grassroots than what nationally controlled agencies can effectively deal with, called for the recognition and reorganization of local or native security outfits like the Agbekoyas among others.

The religious leader, who is also the Arole Ogunelu  Aare Alasa Dynasty in Ibadanland said the creation of state police was long overdue urging the Federal Government to support the state government on the formation of the likes of Amotekun across the Federation to be more effective.

He said against the world standard or security personnel and population ratio, Nigeria is usually ranked low in terms performances.

“Above all, the Aare Ona kakanfo of Yoruba land needs to wake up, he should make use of his position on this issue of insecurity, his impact is only rhetorical never yet felt to show his relevance. He said.

While speaking on corruption, Professor Olagoke advocated for long jail term for corrupt politicians, government officials, and others to serve as deterrent for upcoming leaders.

" However religious houses should ensure proper training of the youths in the way of God so that when they get to the position of authority the teachings will enable them to do things aright "

"Enough of all this prophets of doom who are all out to extort money from the innocent people for their selfish interest and the government should be proactive to sanction any religious house or founder no matter their worth if they are found guilty of any criminal offence, that is the government should not spare the rod and spoil the child " Olagoke advocated.

According to him, tackling corruption is therefore essential for governance to be effective and for government to make it easy for people to meet up with their basic needs. To realize this, power devolution to local governments to aid grassroots development must be resuscitated with anti-graft device and punitive measures for deterrence awaiting defaulting local government officials.

“Long years sentences for corrupt people in politics, government business is sacrosanct since deterrent will be like straw that broke a leg as a warning signal of correction to those that will be coming behind. Plea bargain aids and weaponizes others to be more smart and involving when it is their turn of the juicy opportunity.”

“Saudi and China detest corruption and indiscipline through compliance to the rule of law while developed world would not compromise indiscipline and corruption using technology to track offenders. Do we have such provisions here?

“Above all, Nigeria development revival is a collective responsibility for posterity sustainability and peace sake. The change mantra is feasible like in the case of Singapore. Let us have a paradigm shift because ambulance that goes with siren is for the dead. However in Nigeria, our leaders go with siren too because they are till date, worse than the dead. In the same manner greedy leaders are sick we need to pray for them to be well. Nigeria development revival need is a must for posterity sake.

The occasion featured the conferment of award of excellence to Senator Sharafadeen Alli and nine other deserving Nigerians which includes the CEO of Hands Of Love Family Foundation Mrs. Gloria Omozele Ukagwu for her numerous and constant assistance to the less privileged in the society , cutting of the anniversary cake, Walimotul Qur’ran , and presentation of sewing machines with accessories to two female members of Shafaudeen organization who are beneficiaries of the Senator Yunus Akintunde Empowerment programme among others.
