Oyo State Government, through the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye has vowed to continue engaging the necessary stakeholders to ensure security of lives and properties most especially in this political electioneering period.
The Commissioner made this pledged today while declaring opened A 2-Day Oyo State Security Stakeholders Summit for the Traditional Institutions, organized by the Leadership and Professional Ethics Consultant in conjunction with the State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, held at International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.
Olaleye revealed that the retreat was at identifying the roles of traditional institutions for peace and political stability at this electioneering period, saying that to have effective peaceful environment sustainable for citizens to live, traditional institutions have to be involved.
According to him, importance, roles and cooperation of our traditional institutions can not be down played if peace and political stability is to be achieved"
He revealed that research has showed that traditional institutions are highly influential, and that because they have control over the larger segment of population at the grassroot hence the retreat which has never occur in any states of the federation.
The Commissioner maintained that for any government policies to be acceptable by the general populace, traditional institutions must be carried along, pledging that Oyo State Government under the leadership of Engr. Seyi Makinde would live no stone unturned towards partnering with relevant stakeholders, especially the traditional leaders and security personals as well as Local Government Councils Chairmen.
He therefore apealed and seek for cooperation of traditional rulers and the local government authorities to join hands with the state government in achieving its goals in ensuring safety of lives and properties for peace and political stability during this electioneering period and beyond adding that where there is no peace there would not be any meaningful development.
In his remarks, the State ALGON Chairman, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, commended Governor Makinde for organising retreat for traditional institutions and other stakeholders to ensure people of the state continue to enjoy peaceful environment both state and the local government.
He pledged on behalf of other Chairmen in the state to continue striving for security of lives and properties most especially at the grassroot, adding the retreat would enable all stakeholders identify their roles in ensuring safety of our communities.
The event was attended by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Joel Ajagbe, all Traditional Leaders in the state and the Security Personals.
