IGE Oyo Zone Organizes Free Training Programme For NAPPS




The Permanent Secretary/Inspector General of Education, Oyo Zone, Dr. Tunde Aremu has Charged National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) to pay their statutory revenue to the State Government cover as at when due.



He stated this during a free seminar organized for the Head of private schools in Oyo zone with Theme "How to Grow Private Schools Business" held at Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo.



Dr. Aremu said the free seminar was organized for the Proprietors of Private Schools to grow their businesses.



He added that when their businesses are grown it will be easier for them to pay their statutory revenue into government purse.


He said "when their economic status improves, the resources that are available would be used for their general well being and contributed meaningfully to the State Internal Generated Revenue".


He continued "this is in tandem with His Excellency position, Governor Seyi Makinde Sustainable Action on Economic Recovery to migrate many people from poverty to prosperity".


Dr. Aremu charged the participants to utilized the knowledge provided for them free of charge so that they can be more comfortable economically on their school business.


The (NAPPS) Chairperson, Oyo State, Dr. Mary Odedare commended the State Government for approving the seminar for her colleaque in the private school business.


She enjoined proprietors of private schools to pay their statutory revenue to Government as at when due and make sure that the needful is done as far as Government revenue is concerned.


The guest lecturer Dr. Mrs Olajumoke Martins admonished the school proprietors to adopt new innovations to grow their school business and fulfill their obligations to the State Government.

Professor Olagoke Tasks Government On Poverty Reduction

 



Shafaudeen Boss and the Executive Director,Center for Religious Cooperation and Tolerance,Professor Sabit Ariyo Olagoke JP has expressed  great

worry at the deteriorating living conditions of the masses in Nigeria, especially the physically challenged, orphans and widows, and has therefore challenged Government at all levels to take urgent  measures in ameliorating the deplorable condition of the masses that constituted the bulk of the voters in the election that ushered in the new Government at  all levels- State and Federal. Abject poverty and ostentatious form of living by the leaders are not expected to be the dividend of Democracy.


Olagoke Ariyo, who is also the Mogaji of Ogunelu Aare Alasa Ibadan gave this admonition recently while delivering a lecture at an Empowerment programme organised by Hands of Love Family, a Non Governmental Organisation, seeking better lives for the Widows, less privileged, orphans, physically challenged and the downthroden in the society.


 In the lecture titled, Assisting The Less Privileged; How it begins with you, Prof Olagoke emphatically stated “We expect Government to take care of all, in her annual budget with respect to all encompassing funding formula that takes care of people’s welfare and wellness, without discrimination or marginalisation ”


Prof Olagoke said there should be the promotion of all inclusive society that is expected to afford all able and disabled to have rights to basic needs and infrastructure:- Education , Housing, Employment opportunities, Manufacturing and Production, Food, Health care Services among 

many other privileges.


He therefore advised Government officials to shun ostentatious lifestyles at the expense of the masses and do the needful by channeling funds to projects that will impact positively on the people .


While commending the founder of the Organisation, Prof Olagoke described Mrs Gloria Ukagwu as an epitome of Philanthropy. He commended her efforts and asked her not to relent in her efforts as greater reward awaits her from God.

Palliative materials, including Food stuffs, Provisions, clothing materials and cash gifts were distributed to about 800 less privileged people present.


The CEO of Hands of Love, Mrs Gloria Ukagwu estimated the cost at about five million naira.

She expressed her passion to help the less privileged, a project dear to her heart and which she has been doing for over ten years.

YAWI Celebrates International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women





Every 25 November is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, established in 1999 by the United Nations General Assembly.

 

In a statement issued and signed by the  Executive Director Young and Women Initiative, Ambassador Adebobola Agbeja which was made available to journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital said the campaign was started by activists at the inauguration of the Women's Global Leadership Institute in 1991.



Ambassador Agbeja said It is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.

 


She said the day is also known as Orange Day because the colour orange is worldly recognised by United Nation Women to symbolise a future without violence against women.



The theme for International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2023 is "UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls"


Agbeja said “Be supportive, keep yourself, your family and community healthy and protected. Say no to any form of violence – including physical, emotional, psychological, sexual or economic violence. Nothing can be an excuse for violence against women."


She countinued "Awareness-raising is key to spreading the clear message of zero tolerance of all forms of violence against women and girls. It's also key to informing victims of their rights and the support services available to them". Ambassador Agbeja said

Keep Supporting govt’s efforts On Education, Education Commissioner Charges Old Students




Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, has harped on the need for old students of various schools to give back to their alma mater, saying that this will ensure development of the schools.


The commissioner stated this during the commissioning of the Administrative building donated by Mr. Niyi Gbadegesin to Baptist Grammar School, Otu, Oyo State.



The Commissioner, who said the education sector must not be left in the hands of government alone, maintained that by providing support and assistance to their former schools,

standards of education would be improved.


He commended the donor for the laudable project meant to elevate the standard of the school.


Commissioner explained that philanthropists in the State have done a lot to move education forward by complementing Government efforts in the areas of academic and infrastructural development in schools. 


He maintained that the present administration has provided better funding for the education sector by raising its budgetary expenditure to 23.2% from 16% and increasing the subvention of tertiary institutions in the state to 100%.


He therefore appealed to the school management not to relent in their efforts in the monitoring and maintenance of the school infrastructural facilities.


He said: "I feel highly elated to be part of today's epoch—making occasion of the official commissioning of an administrative block built by Prince Adeniyi Bankole at Baptist Grammar School, Otu, Itesiwaju Local Government.


"From what could be seen and records available, Philanthropists in the State have done a lot to move education forward by complementing Government efforts in the areas of academic and infrastructural development of our schools. They have helped in the construction of the administrative block, renovation of school buildings, equipping

libraries with books, provision of toilet facilities for students, donation of computers to schools, engagement of the service of security guards in our various schools, to mention a few. For these and others, the present administration in the State remains eternally grateful.


"Let me commend Prince Adeniyi Bankole for the construction of a block of the administrative block — one of the eminent sons of the soil.


"Your support and partnership with the government in the provision of qualitative education in the State is highly appreciated. In the words of Anne Frank- a German girl and Jewish, victim of the Holocaust, “No one has ever become poor from giving”. Also, Audrey Hepburn opined that "as you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself, the other for helping others”.


'Oyo State, under the able leadership of the  Governor, Engr. Abiodun Oluseyi Makinde, FNSE, has shown strong determination in its efforts at the repositioning of the Education sector in the State. These Government's landmark achievements are numerous to mention.


"The introduction of free and qualitative Education in the State, the regular payment of teacher's salaries and allowances, the promotion of teachers as and when due, provision of 26,500 pairs of furniture for students, appointment of over 5,000 teachers and 692 Education Officers, purchase of science equipment, sole ownership of Ladoke Akintola University, organisation of intervention classes for graduating SSCE students, purchase of textbooks and notebooks for students across the State, and construction of over 50 model classroom buildings. 


"Other achievements are: reduction in the number of out of school children by over 25%, reinforcement of Teachers' quality through training and retraining (ICT, Science Practical, Pedagogical Skills), approval for organizing education awareness day with awards for various categories of stakeholders who did the State proud, upgrading of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education to University of Education and sole ownership of LAUTECH. In addition, the University was expanded to a multi-campus status starting with the Faculty of Agriculture and Renewable Natural Resources, Iseyin Campus, and the state university was increased from one to three and lots more."


The State Government is therefore imploring other stakeholders in the society, for example: Old Students' Association, Corporate organizations, non-government organizations, individuals, philanthropists, and Parent Association to partner with her in the funding of Education in the State.


"I wish to boldly affirm that Oyo State Government is glad to identify with Prince Adeniyi Bankole and the Government shall continue to synergize with any individual, organisations and Associations whose goals are designed to promote the development of education in the state. 


"I want to appeal to the school management not to relent in their efforts in the monitoring and maintenance of the school infrastructural facilities as well as the facilities that are being commissioned today,  23rd November, 2023," he added.


Earlier, the principal of the School, Mr Egunsola Oladele appreciated the donor, Mr. Niyi Bankole, who graduated from the School in 1988 and donated the building in loving memory of His Royal Highness, Oba Jonathan Gbadegesin, Oniro of Otu (1983-2001) and Olori Beatrice Bankole for their love for Education.


In his remarks, the Oniro of Otu, His Royal Highness, Oba Sunday Adepoju, thanked the donor for deeming it fit to build the edifice to his former school, saying that it would go a long way in assisting the school.


He therefore called on others to emulate the good gesture of the donor.


Speaking on behalf of the donor, who is presently in Canada, Arch Dare Gbadegesin, said the donor is a lover of education and that was why he decided to give back to his Former school.


He hinted that the donor will continue to bring development to his former school.

Oyo Perm Secs Condoles With Late Gbenle's Family




The Forum of Permanent Secretaries, Executive Secretaries, General Managers led by the State Head of Service, Mrs Olubunmi Oni, mni has paid a condolence visit to the family of a Retired Permanent Secretary, late Ms. Olaitan Gbenle who was murdered in cold blood recently.


She said late Ms Gbenle was dedicated to duty, down to earth and very hardworking when she was with State Civil Service.


The Head of Service in her condolence message said: "it was with rude shock that we received the news of your demise, we believed you are resting in the bosom of your creator, you were hardworking, forthright and loving while you were with us in the service, we pray that the good Lord will be  with the members of your family amen. Adieu Ms Olaitan Gbenle" the statement said. 


It would be recalled that the retired Permanent Secretary, late Ms Olaitan Gbenle was murdered recently by the men of the underworld inside her house at Idi Ishin, Ibadan. 


Responding, her daughter, Dr. Folorunsho Olajide appreciated the State Head of Service and her team for paying  Gbenle family a visit.

OYSCOHEST PLAYS HOST TO NBTE FOR THE ACCREDITATION OF SIX ACADEMIC PROGAMMES




Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology,  Eleyele, Ibadan (OYSCOHEST) has recorded  another academic feat,  with the visit of the National Board for Technical Education's Accreditation Team for the Resource Inspection exercise of six of its  academic programmes.



The six programmes are HND, Dental Nursing, HND, Dental Therapy, HND, Health Information Management,  HND, Nutrition and Dietetics, HND, Environmental Health Technology  and ND,  Paramedics Technology.



Briefing  the Management and Staff of the College at  the end of the exercise,  the NBTE Team Lead,  Prince Dr. Murtala Aliyu Sakwa  commended the Management of the College for the infrastructural development between October, 2022 during their last visit and  November this year,  advising the Management to forge ahead in sustaining the tempo.



He said the NBTE Team is impressed with what they met on ground, noting with delight that the College Management is doing well. 


Prince Dr Murtala Sakwa lauded the Executive Governor of Oyo State,  Engr. Seyi Makinde  for his apparent support for the College and the good development of the State.



Also speaking, the Director of Monotechnics of NBTE,  Alhaji Samaila Tanko said the College had done so much to upgrade its standard compared to what was met on ground last year, advising the College Management not to relent in their efforts in moving the College forward. 


In her remarks, the Provost of the College, Pharmacist Mrs Oluyemisi Oyewo appreciated the NBTE Team for the objectivity in their assessment  and commended the Visitor to the College, the Executive Governor,  Engr. Seyi Makinde  for his constant support for the College.


She assured the Visiting NBTE Team that the College will continue to improve on the existing facilities to create an enabling environment for teaching and learning .


Mrs Oluyemisi Oyewo, also appreciated the Governing Council, the Management and Staff for their various contributions towards the progress of the College.


Receiving the NBTE Team in her office, the Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Dr Mrs Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi  thanked the team for the visit, promising that the College will continue to receive Oyo State Government's  attention  and support for its overall progress.


Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology, Eleyele, Ibadan  was established on April 1, 1933, and has the mandate to train middle level health care manpower.


The College is currently running nineteen Health Courses.

Oke-Amu Community Commends Governor Makinde Over Oyo HOS’ Appointment

 



The indigenes of the Oke-Amu Community, Itesiwaju Local Government area, on Thursday commended Governor Seyi Makinde on the appointment of Mrs Olubunmi Oni, as the 29th Head of Service in Oyo State.

The community, led by Mr. Oketunde Wasiu unanimously stated this during a courtesy visit paid to the Head of Service in her office, secretariat, Ibadan.

She enjoined the community to continue their support for Governor Makinde to bring the dividends of democracy to the grassroot level.


She said "my father lived in the Oke- Amu community for ten years before the creation of  Osun state, he was a secondary school principal at Oke Amu and contributed his quota to the development


of the area."

She said she would do anything possible within her capacity to assist children of Oke Amu anywhere in the world.

OYSCOHEST MANAGEMENT REFUTES FALSE ALLEGATIONS BY ANONYMOUS STUDENT, AGAINST THE COLLEGE AND MLT HOD ON TWITTER.

 



The attention  of the Management of Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology, Eleyele, Ibadan has been drawn to  various false allegations  levelled against the Head of Department Medical Laboratory Science, Mrs Rukayat Omolola Arikewuyo and the College Management by an anonymous student on her Twitter handle, describing  the allegations as blatant lies, falsehood and mere fabrication meant to bring the College to disrepute and tarnish the  image of the concerned HOD.


This is contained  in a statement issued in Ibadan on behalf of the College Management by the Public Relations Officer of the College, Mr Sola Samuel Ojewole, made available to newsmen.



The statement said there was never a time bullying  had occurred  as  students are neither victimized  nor oppressed by any Academic or non Academic Staff of the College especially the Medical Laboratory Department. 


The statement equally  condemned the allegation that the HOD,  Mrs Rukayat Omolola Arikewiyo  was beating students of her Department describing it as mere fabrication without any iota of truth. 


The College is a tertiary institution,  one wonders how students of a tertiary institution will be subjected to such treatment when they are not babies.


On extortion, the statement noted that no Head of Department is extorting any student in the College,  as all fees are paid into the designated College accounts. 


It added that no Student  can ever be punished for not contributing to any HOD's birthday or disallowed from receiving lectures or writing examinations except for failure to pay their fees and not meeting up to the 75% attendance as stipulated in the Students' code of conduct handbook. 


It is also worthy of note that no student was expelled by the said HOD at any time, because no HOD has such power. The College has a functioning Students' Disciplinary Committee in place to handle all cases of misconduct and a grievance procedure  to report allegations by students. 


The statement also described the allegations of having no classrooms and no lecturers as baseless as His Excellency,  the Executive Governor of Oyo State just gave approval for the recruitment of lecturers in the College and the department alone got additional three lecturers that resumed work in June, 2023, bringing the number of permanent lecturers in the department to six in addition to contract and part time lecturers. 


Lectures for the semester commenced since September and there is no such thing as the students not having classes at all this semester. 


On the issue of the Head of Department not allowing the students not to pray and abusing their God, this is also a fallacy as the HOD is also a practising Muslim. 


All the allegations are spurious and ridiculous and there was never a time when any report was made to the College Provost by any student of the department as alleged by the anonymous student. 


The statement called on members of the  members of the public  to disregard  the Twitter message noting with delight that the 90 year-old College is known for academic excellence and integrity.


Reacting to this malicious post by the  faceless student, the Student Affairs' Officer of  the College, Mr Amos Taiwo Ojewale and the President of the  Students' Union Government,  Comrade Tolase Fadare described the allegations against the MLT HOD as unfortunate and an embarrassment to the Students' body, having no element of truth but meant to discredit the College.

Kano Guber: NNPP Chieftain, Ajadi Congratulates Kano Governor As Certified True Copy Reveals Abba Yusuf Wins At Appeal





A Chieftain of the New Nigeria People's Party, (NNPP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo has congratulated the Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf over his victory at the Court of Appeal in Abuja.


It could be recalled that the Kano State  Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi told journalists on Tuesday evening that, “Page 67 of the certified copy of the judgement clearly indicated that the tribunal’s ruling that sacked Governor Yusuf was set aside.

“Contrary to what the Judges read to the public in the court room on the 17th November, the written evidence has vindicated Yusuf as legitimate Governor of Kano state", Dederi said.


Ajadi, in a statement on Wednesday on the development said, contrary to the judgement read by the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja last Friday that dismissed the Appeal of Abba Yusuf against the ruling of the Tribunal judgement, the Certified True Copy of the judgement obtained has revealed that Yusuf's appeal was upheld by the Court of Appeal.

He congratulated his party, the NNPP, the Kano State Governor, the presidential candidate of the party, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso and all party leaders and members for the deserved victory.


Speaking further, Ajadi who was the party's Governorship Candidate in the March 2023 election in Ogun State said the All Progressives Congress,  (APC)  wanted to destroy Nigeria through abracadabra but stressed that Nigerians would not accept that.


"The Appeal Court set aside Tribunal's judgment, upholds the Appeal of Abba Yusuf, and even awarded cost against APC, where do they now see their victory. The Kano State  issue has exposed many sins of the APC.

"He warned that Nigeria is not a banana republic where anything goes. We are more enlightened and we will not allow the APC to turn law on its head.

"We are grateful to the judiciary for upholding the truth. I rejoice with my brother, Abba Yusuf on his victory, and all members of our party and residents of Kano State for their peaceful conducts in the face of huge provocation.

"I implore Governor Abba Yusuf to concentrate on the delivering of dividends of democracy to the people of Kano State who willingly and voluntarily voted him into office".

GOD WILL PENETRATE NIGERIA WITH HIS MIGHTY HAND IN 2024 - SAYS PASTOR AJAYI

  



A prominent CAC Pastor, Stephen Oluwatooyin AJAYI says Nigeria would witness the mighty hand and power of God in 2024 with solutions to socio - economic and political problems .



Pastor AJAYI stated this at the 17th anniversary thanksgiving Service of Christ Apostolic Church CAC Victory Centre Akingbade Akinfenwe Old Ife Road, Ibadan.



The man of God said God loves Nigeria and His plans for the country are not revealed to anybody .



Pastor Stephen AJAYI told the congregation not to put their trust in anybody but trust God for their provision .



The Cleric warned against eating just anything outside and if they do the blood of Jesus should be pleaded on whatever they are eating outside of their homes


Pastor AJAYI called on Nigerians to move closer to God and refrain from all iniquities. 



He stressed the need for love to be maintained by people as he commended the Anniversary Planning Committee for a job well done and congratulated members of CAC Victory Centre  Akingbade Akinfenwa Old Ife Road for witnessing the 17th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service .


 The anniversary cake was cut while music was rendered to spice up the event. The event was attended by eminent Nigerians from far and near.



Makinde: The deep doing the profound

No leader sets out to fail. Most leaders assume office with great plans to effect a great change in their domains. But quite often, that does not happen. In the course of carrying out their functions, many leaders act contrary to their avowed intentions and head south. Why? It is because the road to hell is paved with good intentions, not bad ones. In the same vein, the road to bad governance starts with good intentions. Bottom line: Good intentions do not always translate to good performance in office.

Dearth of knowledge is the death of good intentions. Limited knowledge rubbishes good intentions. Limited knowledge constricts accomplishments. Limited knowledge deters progress. Limited knowledge locks down a people’s potentialities. A society’s stride is directly proportional to the leader’s knowledge. Therefore, one of the best things a leader can do for those he leads is to be unwaveringly committed to personal development. A leader should so much develop his capacity that very few things would be beyond his ken. This is the rationale behind the call for the enthronement of philosopher kings. 

The thrust of the philosopher king concept propounded by Plato is that no society can be better than the quality of its leaders. For a society to attain great heights, it must be led by people of great knowledge, not intellectual minions. For any society to stop the ballroom dance of one step forward and two backwards, it must be governed by those who have committed themselves to the continuous search for knowledge. This is important because a people’s destinies are tied to their leaders’. Put differently, the fortune of a people is determined by their leader’s ability or lack of it. What the people do, what they get and what they become are tied to the quality of the leadership provided for them. Since a person cannot bequeath what he lacks, it means for the followers to get better, the leader must not be satisfied with the status quo. He must be on a journey of continuous improvement. If a leader puts a cap on his personal improvement, he has put a lid on the improvement of the people who look up to him and a ceiling on the progress the society he leads can accomplish. But when a leader is unrepentantly committed to self development, he sets the society that he leads on the path of sustainable and scalable development. 

This is where Governor Seyi Makinde stands out. While not positing that he is a philosopher or a king, it is indubitable that Governor Makinde of Oyo State epitomises the attributes of a philosopher king. His love for reading is tremendous. His devotion to self development is phenomenal and his affection for learning is exemplary. Governor Makinde reads daily and widely. He reads science books, biographies, history, geography and global politics. He is also keenly interested in innovations and inventions. His ability to absorb new information just like foam soaks in water equips him with facts, data, logic and knowledge beyond his immediate environment. These often put him several steps ahead of others. So, he is able to see opportunities before they become obvious and appropriates them. He is also able to identify problems before they manifest and prevents such. 

There were genuine security concerns before Governor Makinde’s inauguration for his first tenure in 2019 as a result of the crisis involving members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). But without much fuss, Governor Makinde quelled what could have become a conflagration. How? He proscribed the NURTW in the state and set up the Park Management System (PMS). That masterstroke achieved two things. First, it took the wind out of the sail of the warring members of the NURTW as there was no need to fight over what had ceased to exist. Two, it reverted control of the parks to the government and boosted its revenue generation. That novelty has since been adopted by a number of states in the South West geopolitical zone. Question: How did Governor Makinde arrive at proscribing the union? Albert Einstein said a problem cannot be solved at the same level of thinking that created it. So, Governor Makinde elevated his thinking and solved a perennial problem that had gotten the better of several administrations before his. Problems cannot abide where knowledge abounds. 

Governor Makinde’s love for knowledge acquisition has made him cosmopolitan, rather than provincial. Unlike many of his predecessors in office, he always considers the big picture before taking a decision. Consequently, instead of concentrating development in Ibadan, his native land, he has ensured even distribution of projects to all parts of the state. 

Governor Makinde has been able to connect all the zones in the state with good road networks. Through the Moniya-Iseyin road, Ibadan zone has been connected to the Oke-Ogun zone; through the Oyo-Iseyin road, Oyo zone has been linked to Oke-Ogun zone; through the ongoing Ogbomoso-Fapote-Iseyin road, Ogbomoso zone is being linked to Oke-Ogun zone; and through the Ido-Eruwa road, Ibadan zone is linked to Ibarapa zone.

Beyond the ease of movement which the road networks guarantee, the philosophical underpinning behind Governor Makinde’s decision to link the zones is what scientists refer to as the butterfly effect. This is the term used to explain the situation in which a slight change in an element ignites a huge effect in another element in a deterministic nonlinear system. By connecting all the zones in the state, Governor Makinde has deliberately unleashed the economic potential of each of the zones and prepares the state for long-lasting economic benefits. Governor Makinde realised that in the long run a Naira expended on interconnecting the zones would yield more benefits to the state than the same amount of money spent to fix roads in urban areas. This is why he started with connecting the zones. Before connecting the zones, the bulk of Oyo State’s revenue was from Ibadan zone. But with the connectivity, all the zones are positioned to contribute to the state coffers. Now, how does a single-engine aircraft compare with a five-engine airplane in speed and stability? Only the deep can do the profound. 

During the inauguration of the Iseyin Campus of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Governor Makinde said one of the reasons the College of Agriculture and Renewable Natural Resources was sited in that town was because of its proximity to the hottest local government area in the state. The Governor posited that with the rising clamour for clean energy by the whole world, the new Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources would be positioned to take advantage of its nearness to the hottest part of the state to conduct series of research about solar energy and prepare the state to take advantage of its abundant sunlight to improve energy generation in the state.

So, while the location of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology College of Agriculture and Renewable Natural Resources in Iseyin was an answer to the prayers of the people of the town, it was also a strategic move by Governor Seyi Makinde to convert the abundant solar energy in that axis to the advantage of the people of Oyo State.  As often said by Governor Makinde that he is guided by logic, data and science, locating the LAUTECH campus in Iseyin was beyond political settlement, it was supported by logic, data and science.  The logic of locating the college in Iseyin is that the town people’s agitation for a tertiary institution was justifiable. The data is that siting the college in that zone would boost the state’s revenue generation through the expected town and gown engagements; and the science is that the area could offer opportunity to improve life and living through research activities in various human endeavours. 

Continuous learning has drilled into Governor Makinde’s sub-consciousness the necessity to pass on to others the values that have helped him in life and leadership. Regularly, he engages Oyo State citizens on X (formerly Twitter), where he gives updates on government activities. Every other week, the governor sends a mail to citizens of the state, where he shares his thoughts on various issues, gives accounts of his activities and challenges the citizens to embark on self development by sharing insights on the books he is reading, while requesting for feedbacks from them. This is what leadership experts refer to as mentoring. 

Mentoring is critical to nation building and vital to preservation of cultural values because it is a means of transferring knowledge, attitudes, norms and ideals to the next generation. It is also an avenue to build character and shape lives. But, unfortunately, mentoring is lacking in our clime because it is the forte of the deep. Many political leaders have scant interest in preparing the next generation for the serious task of nation building because they are not as deep as they should be. Lack of mentoring has robbed Nigeria, nay Africa, of the bulk of our mores. Lack of mentoring has crashed patriotism and vitiated nationalism. The youth have not many people of substance to look up to, so they make villains their heroes. But by regularly engaging the youth and the people at large, Governor Makinde is changing all of that, he is giving hope to the youth, he is inspiring them to become better and encouraging them to believe the best in their country. Without actually striving to, Governor Makinde is fast becoming a role model to many Nigerian youths. 

Now, if there is any other Nigerian Governor who regularly engages the youth, mentors them, inspires them, tasks their intellect and challenges them to be the best version of themselves, I would like to meet with him.

World Tolerance Day:Olagoke Cautions Politicians On Oppression




As Countries all over the World mark the World Tolerance Day,  A Prof. and Cleric, Alhaji Sabit Ariyo Olagoke JP has called on  Nigerian Youth to learn from the elders so as not to be misled in choosing the right path for their future. 


Prof. Olagoke while delivering a lecture titled " Tolerance : A Means To Foster Peace In a Multifaceted Society" to mark the World Tolerance Day and the first Prof.  Sabitu Ariyo Olagoke JP Annual Tolerance Day Symposium, described the Youth as the hope of the Country and urged them to take things easy in life and not look at  the corrupt Nigerian leaders as their role model. 


Prof. Olagoke who is also the Arole Ogun Elu of Aare Alasa Dynasty, however called on Nigeria leaders to operate within the constitutional framework of the Nation and shun attitudes that can negatively inspire the youth of the country. 


" Where there is no Policy implementation,  Democracy can not work. Fortunately, people from  religious houses are supposed to be processed and refined to fill up the polity and the political space of the Nation. While stating that bad policies are responsible for the  present crop of poor leadership we have in the Country.  He asserted that Equity,concept of Democracy will continue to elude us under the present circumstances.  


In her remark,  immediate past secretary of National Youth Council, Oyo State Chapter, Alhaja Airat Adegbola stated that human being will forever need each other for existence.  It was on this premise that she hinted that we should all live in harmony for a better co-existence. 

 There is the need for us to tolerate each other  to grow positively.


She however urged the youth to have a mind of tolerance irrespective of Religion and Ethnicity. 


The immediate past Chairman of National Youth Council,  Oyo State Council, Ambassador Agbeja  Adebobola stated that Tolerance is required to have Social Development. While calling on the media to endeavor to preach Tolerance at all times. Tolerance, which according  to her will reduce societal vices and build up Peace in our community. 


" If we can tolerate our religious diversity,  the Community,  State and the World at large will be better" 


She however commended Prof.  Olagoke for recognizing the youth and for his continuous love for the youth to excel in life. Agbeja is also the Executive Director of The Young And Women Initiative (YAWI). 


Pastor Adejobi Olaposi who represented the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in his remark charged the youth that the future of the Country is in their hands. He urged them to improve their social status to be able to change the society positively and not to adopt violence as a  means of achieving their goals in life. 


Prof.  Olagoke also  called on Nigerian leaders to operate within the Constitutional framework and not to intimidate the masses into negative means of achieving things in life. 





" Tolerance is a must for all of us to be above beastly behaviour and negative reactions because it is an antidote to disharmony for ease of promoting peace and development as well as safe and secured environment for investment and habitation driven by peaceful coexistence" 


" Live to tolerate one another to be your brother's keeper because varieties and diversities are divine designs of God as permanently decreed to test our understanding, tolerance, love and the humane nature of accommodating cum hospitality base of human relation for peace,  team work spirit and development"  For ease of promoting Peace Prof. Olagoke appealed to all to live in harmony.

Kano Guber: APC Must Not Destroy Judiciary, Party Membership Is Internal Affairs Of Political Parties - S/W NNPP, Ajadi

 



South West Secretary of the New Nigeria People's Party, (NNPP), Dr Babatunde Oke has chided the Kano State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) over the Court of Appeal Judgement which ruled that Kano state governor, Abba Yusuf is not a member of the NNPP, saying the APC and the Court have no right to determine who is a member of the NNPP.



Oke made this known on Sunday in a statement in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital in reaction to the judgement of the Court of Appeal which on Friday, affirmed the tribunal judgment which declared the Kano state APC candidate, Nasiru Gawuna winner of the governorship election.



Delivering judgment on the matter on Friday, the Appeal Court held that Yusuf was not qualified to contest the election, because he is not a member of the NNPP.



 But Oke in the statement said, the Appeal Court judgement will be upturned by the Supreme Court, saying political parties have supremacy over its own affairs.



He said from the previous judgements, it has been ascertained that political parties have supremacy over its own affairs and no Court can inquire into the membership or leadership of a Political Party. 


"The issue of membership of a political party is a party affairs and it's outside the purview of Court's jurisdiction. It is a matter which only political party can decide. To inquire into such would amount to a Court poking into the internal or domestic affairs of the party.


"In the Case of Tinubu vs Obi, same Court ruled that the candidate's membership is a Party affairs.


"In the case of Abba vs Gawuna, same Court ruled that it has jurisdiction to interfere in the party's membership. Same country, same Court, same judges but different judgement, this is surprising. APC should not destroy the judiciary".


In the documents attached to the statement signed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the name of Kano state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf name was clearly shown on 56209 of the NNPP members registration.


"Where did the Appeal Court and APC see their own membership register, where Abba Kabir Yusuf name was not found.


"Our national Secretary, Dipo Olayoku on June 23, 2023 requested true certified copy of Kano membership registration that was submitted to the INEC before the election.


"The letter which was addressed to the Secretary, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Zambezi Crescent, Maitama, Abuja, tittled: Request for certified true copy of updated NNPP membership register submitted to the commission.


"The letter reads: We hereby request for the Certified True copy of our updated Party Membership Register earlier submitted to the Commission.


"This certification of our copy of register becomes necessary for Court processes involving our Party.


"We agree to take charge of all due fees, while awaiting your quick action, please accept our best regards.


"And the copy was presented to us after the statutory payment of eleven thousand one hundred and sixty one naira, twenty-five kobo (N11,161. 25k) was paid to the INEC.


"And the name of Kano state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf was clearly shown on 56209 of the NNPP members registration".


It could be recalled that earlier, a Chieftain of the party, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo has expressed optimism that Yusuf will be affirmed as the Kano State Governor by the Supreme Court.


Ajadi said even the APC's  argument at the Tribunal was different from that at the Appeal Court and wondered whether they started a new case at the Appeal Court.


He maintained that what Appeal Court ruled upon has been argued in many cases and Courts but the rulings on those cases were judged as an intra party, which doesn't concern any other person or party, wondering why that of  Kano  will be different?


 He called on the good people of Kano State to remain calm and  avoid provocation from the opposition who are enjoying a temporary victory..


“It is surprising that the judgements of the two courts are even different. While the Tribunal led by Justice Oluyemi Osadebay nullified the election of Governor Abba Yusuf by declaring 165, 663 of his votes invalid.


"The tribunal held that the ballot papers were not signed nor stamped by the Independent National Electoral Commission.


“The Court of Appeal in its judgement held that Yusuf was not in the membership register of his political party, which has been argued in the past and the judgement was that membership of a candidate rest on the party and its memeber, why now is the business of APC, it is intra - party affairs. 


"This is surprising, to say a candidate of the party, that campaigned across the nook and crannies of the state and was voted for  overwhelmingly by the people is not a member of the party is unbelievable.


“I urged His Excellency, Governor Abba Yusuf to remain calm, as this judgement cannot stand the test of time.


"I also pledged with our presidential candidate, Senator Rabi'u Musa Kwakwanso to remain calm and urged our supporters nationwide to remain calm.


"The people of Kano know that our party is the leading party in the state and this has been demonstrated in the other elections.


"NNPP has the highest members of the State Assembly,  highest members of the national assembly from the state and we are with the grassroots".

YAWI Celebrates World Toilet Day, Urges People to Eradicate Open Defication





The Executive Director, Young and  Woman Initiative (YAWI), Ambassador Agbeja Adebobola has advised Nigerians to use the occasion of 2023 World Toilet Day to eradicate open defication in Nigeria. 


In a statement issued and signed in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital, Ambassador Agbeja said the United Nations General Assembly officially designated November 19 as World Toilet Day.


She said It was first established in 2001 by the World Toilet Organization. World Toilet Day celebrates toilets and raises awareness of the 4.2 billion people living without access to safely managed sanitation.


She said "This year World Toilet Day has the Theme: "Accelerating Change', to highlight the journey towards achieving SDG 6- Clean Water and Sanitation".


Ambassador Agbeja enjoined people to choose sanitation related actions to speed up progress on this part of SDG 6: Break taboos: hinted about the critical connection between toilets, water and menstruation. Flush safe: Fix leaking water and waste pipes, empty full septic tanks and report dumping of sludge.


The Executive Director, Young and  Woman Initiative (YAWI) encouraged people to adopt one House, one Toilet initiative as stated by the United Nations General Assembly.

Rotary Club seeks collaboration with Journalists, set to empower 600 Youths in Ibadan, Abuja




Rotary Club International (District 9125) is set to empower 600 youths in Ibadan and Abuja on vocational cum socialization skills expected to last for one week. 


The District Governor Sagab Ahmed who solicited for the cooperation of media men said that the program tagged the ‘Rotary Youth Leadership Academy’ is a vocational/leadership/socialization training. 


He made this known when he paid a courtesy visit to the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oyo State Council at Iyaganku GRA, Ibadan.


Rotarian Ahmed added that the program sponsored by District 9125 aims at training selected 200 plus participants who are members and non-members of the club in Ibadan.


According to him, the training in Ibadan is scheduled to precede that of Abuja where about 300 or more participants are to be trained.


He said that the program also aims at gearing the interests of the non-members in Rotary activities and membership.


While seeking the support of media men, he said that the program needs media attention as a way of showing the importance of developing the youths. 


“Very importantly, we want to develop socialization skills in them. They would be able to interact with other people in a very respectful and organized way in their processes of growth. 


“It is in the process of interaction and one’s capacity of interacting with other people that actually develops one. Also, there is going to be several activity like physical training as well as structured classroom training where they would be trained and there would be interactions in their social activities. 


“At the end of the day, we hope they would be able to develop long lasting friendships just as that of alumni of a particular school. They would grow possibly being Rotarians and also being helpful to each other and at the same time being of service to their communities. 


“The vocational skills to be learnt includes “tailoring, soap and cream manufacturing, shoe making and several others,” he said.

Professor Adeyemo added that the present administration is open for collaboration to deliver dividends of democracy in Omititun 2.0. for the people of the State. 


She appreciated Professors from the veterinary department of the University of Ibadan for their continuous prayer and support to succeed on her present assignment.


Speaking at the event, the Head of the Department. Professor Victoria Adetunji alongside Professor Olayinka Ishola commended Governor Seyi Makinde for the dualization of Bashorun - Akobo-Ojurin - Road for the benefit of the people.

Oyo Govt. Committed to Responsible Gaming Policy

 





The Oyo State Government has reiterated its commitment to a responsible gaming policy, in the state.


The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo stated this during the 5th annual Stakeholders Interactive Forum of the Oyo State Gaming Board.


The Theme of the forum Tax and Task, Building a sustainable Gaming Environment was held at Golden Tulip Hotel, Jericho, Ibadan.


She enjoined gaming companies to embrace transparent monetization in the world of gaming.



The SSG said the State Government has a responsible gaming framework principle to ensure that the citizens are protected.


Professor Adeyemo urged game operators to cooperate with the Oyo State Gaming and Lottery Board to tap from the opportunity in the gaming industry in the State.


In his remarks, the Director General of the Board, Mr Olajide Boladuro commended the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde for making Oyo State number one investment destination in Nigeria.


Boladuro enjoined gaming companies in the State to adhere to strict rules and standards designed to protect players in the gaming industry.

Continue Your Good Work for the Community - Oyo HOS Charges WDC

 



The Oyo State Head of Service, Mrs Olubunmi Oni, mni has charged members of the Ward Development Committee to continue their good work for grassroot development across the State.


She stated this while hosting the Executive Council of the WDC on a courtesy visit at her office Secretariat, Ibadan.


She enjoined them to maintain their good working relationship with the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency  (OYSHIA) and the State Primary Health Care Board for smooth monitoring of the State Health care centres.


The Head of Service admonished WDC to keep informing the pregnant women at the grassroot level to always visit the State Hospitals at least once in a month for check up.


She said the State Government would empower WDC members in order to work more for the development of the community.


She said efforts are in top gear to train women at the various wards in the State on practical vocation which according to her would reduce poverty to the bearest minimum in the State 


In his remarks, the Chairman of the team, Alhaji Abdul-Fatai Oloyede commended the State Government Giant stride in the Health sector. 


He appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde for the construction of the 361 health centres across the wards which according to him brings health care delivery to the door steps of the masses.
