GLOBAL MEDIA INFORMATION LITERACY WEEK:Samo felicitates media practitioners






..advocates better remuneration, welfare for reporters



The Vice-President, Nigeria. Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zone B, Comrade Ronke Afebioye Samo has felicitated with media practitioners in Nigeria on the occasion of the weeklong celebration of the Global Media Information and Literacy (MIL) being organised by the UNESCO and Ministry of Information.  


According to a statement by the VP, media practitioners have been doing tremendous job in disseminating information and educating the public about matters of development and growth in Nigeria. She added that Reporters in the country deserve better remuneration than what they are currently having.


While  appreciating media in the country for serving faithfully and sincerely as the fourth estate of the realm, she urged media entrepreneurs and employers to ensure that Reporters get better remuneration packages that are commensurate with their input to the system.


Her statement reads in part: " lt is yet another memorable era of the Global Media Information and Literacy week. 

This is a time we review activities of our colleagues with a view to appreciate and encourage ourselves for a great service we are rendering to our society.


The dissemination of information is very key to the progress, development and survival of any society and this is why journalists should be highly appreciated and encouraged. 

In this light, we urge the stakeholders, our esteemed citizens,  governments at all levels as well as employers of media practitioners to make conscious efforts to appreciate and encourage our colleagues. 


While we urge employers of Reporters to ensure that their welfare and commensurate remuneration are top priorities, we also urge the public to understand practitioners in the media as friends and even , saviours of our society.


We equally urge the government and several stakeholders to encourage journalists in the area of sponsoring special trainings and providing better incentives for them. 


We finally, extend appreciation and commendation to all Reporters who have been serving the nation faithfully ensuring that  no one is kept in the dark about matters regarding our growth and development as a nation. May our sweat of love and sacrifice be continually rewarded,"

Oyo Govt, Will Continue to Prioritize Workers Welfare - Oyo HOS

 



The Oyo State Head of Service, Mrs Ololade Agboola has said that the present administration in the State would continue to prioritize workers welfare.


She stated this while hosting the National President of the Nigeria Union of Public Service Reportorial, Secretarial, Data Processing and allied Workers (NUPSRAW) at the Head of Service Conference Room, Secretariat, Ibadan.


She said the present administration in the state are workers friendly, hinting that, Civil/Public Servants had been enjoying regular payment of salaries, Car loan and Housing loan.


She reiterated that the present Government in the state used Civil Servants as the engine room of his administration to improve the economic status of the state.


"No outstanding promotion for any of the Oyo State workers, we cleared all the pending promotion till 2021 with financial implications, Civil Servants in Oyo State are happy, we have stability in payment of salaries and allowances".


"Your profession is one of the oldest profession in the Civil Service, there is no way you will not touch lives, if there is something we can do in the scheme of service to enhance your cadre please inform us".


She then commended the union leaders for allowing the gender balancing in the affairs of their union "since 1972 you have First Female President at the helms affairs.


In her remarks, the National President of the Union comrade Roseline Ubah Anarah enjoined women to value themselves in carrying out their duties in their various duty post.

NIGERIAN ARMY RECRUITMENT EXERCISE FOR THE 84 REGULAR RECRUITS INTAKE (RRI)


This is to inform the general public that on-line application for Nigerian Army Recruitment Exercise for 84 Regular Recruits Intake (RRI) has commenced on 10th October, 2022 and will close on 2nd December, 2022.


The application form is free and will be available online at https://recruitment.army.mill.ng. 


All applications will be screened on-line and qualified applicants will be shortlisted to attend the physical  screening exercise at the State recruitment centre, Odogbo Barack, Ojoo, Ibadan.


Interested Male and Female indigenes of Oyo State who wish to apply are hereby advised to obtain indigeneship certificate at Room 53, Governor's Office, Secretariat, Ibadan, Liaison Offices at Abuja and Lagos to confirm that they are bonafide candidate of Oyo State Origin.

Oyo ADC Deputy Governorship Candidate Defects to PDP





The deputy governorship candidate of the African    Democratic Party (ADC) in Oyo State, Emmanuel Oyewole, has defected to the ruling  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. 


Oyewole  is  the running mate to the governorship candidate of the ADC in the state, Dr. Ganiyu Ajadi, for the 2023 governorship election.


The development is coming  exactly a week  when thousands of members of the party formally detected to the PDP at Lekan Salami Stadium,  Adamasingba, Ibadan.


Oyewole, while addressing newsmen on Friday, at the Dapo Aderogba Press Centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Oyo State Council, described his decision as a turning point in the race for the 2023 governorship election. 


He said: "I, Emmanuel Oyetayo Oyewole, the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the ADC in Oyo State, hereby denounce my membership of the ADC and pledge my total allegiance to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)."


"I and my followers, spread across the state, have considered this decision and I can say with all sense of responsibility that I have taken this decision in the interest of Oyo State.


He lauded  the state Governor Seyi Makinde''s effort's at transforming the state in the areas of infrastructure, education, health, security  and human capital development, among others. 


"Truth be told, going by the good governance and masterful administration of Oyo State under the incumbent Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, the 2023 Governorship Election in the state should have only one clear contender and that is the incumbent Governor, because as they say, one good term deserves another."


"Under Governor Makinde, Oyo State is gradually transforming into the State of our collective dreams; the Pacesetter State, where different success stories in human capacity development, infrastructure development, economic expansion, improved education, security of lives and properties and health delivery gladden the hearts."


"As loyal and patriotic indigenes of Oyo State, I and the teeming members of the ADC who had earlier signed to my aspiration as ADC Deputy Governorship Candidate, we want these positive developments to continue and we believe that only Governor Makinde can make this possible."

2022 Oyo NUJ Press Week: Our Members Welfare Remains Paramount To Us - Comrade Babalola







The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oyo State Council, says the welfare of its members and veterans remains paramount.


Chairman of the council, Comrade Ademola Babalola, stated this during a fitness  walk organised by the council as one of its activities to mark the 2022 NUJ Press Week on Tuesday.


According to him, the press week is a time for journalists to brainstorm on crucial issues of national interest and take part in physical exercise to improve on healthy living.


Babalola said: “Our welfare for elders and members is superb. We love them and we are enjoying very smooth and cordial relationship

 with all elders in the Oyo council. We have taken the issues of welfare of our members as a top priority.


“We are also keeping them abreast of all we are doing and they are happy with us. We have received their blessings. They are always on our list. We need them around to advise us and to guide us aright.”


Interesting Facts You Probably Didn’t Know About Asake



Ahmed Ololade professionally known as Asake is a Nigerian singer and songwriter, he was born in the late 1990s.

Asake’s stage name pays homage to his mother, whose first name is Asake, apparently, he has so much love for his mother.


Asake had been making music since he was in University, He studied Theatre and Performing Arts at the great Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun state.


Asake’s musical career stepped forward after he released “Mr. Money” in 2020 followed by a remix with Zlatan and Peruzzi, “Mr. Money” and “Lady” got some attention but not to the mainstream extent.


Asake continued to release more singles including “Medusa” and “Yan Yan” before he was signed to YBNL in February 2022.


 

Asake shot to fame after releasing his hit single “Omo Ope” in January 2022 featuring Olamide and since the hit, Asake never missed.


In February 2022, Asake released his debut extended play “Ololade Asake”, which featured Asake‘s breakthrough song “Omo Ope” Another hit single that was released off the extended play was “Sungba” which was remixed a month later with Burna Boy.


Asaké is signed to YBNL NATION and Empire Distribution.

“Asake” is now a stage name across the board but he was formerly known as MEDOO and he released a song titled JOO HAA under that stage name while he was at the university.


Also, the song JOHA is on the tracklist of his recently released debut album MMWTV.


In his quest for fame, Asake engaged with the famous Nigerian comedian, Broda Shaggi who made him feature in some of his skits, he was also a backup singer for Broda Shaggi back then.


Asake often uses uptempo Afro and Amapiano-styled production, There are elements of Fuji in his songs.


Another interesting fact you might not know about Asake is that he was a dancer before venturing into music and a big admirer of Wizkid.


In one of his posts on his old Twitter account, “Medoo” was full of praises for Wizkid, aside from that there was a video that surfaced online recently where the singer is seen praising Wizkid.


According to Asake, he had been texting Olamide since 2020, but he didn’t get a reply from him until he released “Omo Ope” and finally Olamide reached out to him via a phone call and demanded that they meet and when he arrived, Baddo simply asked if he would like to join the family and that was how he joined the YBNL family.


After the release of his debut album “MMWTV” Asake has been making history in the music industry, the album has been topping different countries’ music charts since its release, also MMWTV is the first afrobeat debut album to debut on UK official album chart.


Sequel to his UK tour, Asake has sold out the 02 Academy 5000 capacity three times which makes him the first afrobeat star to do three dates at the 5000 capacity Brixton academy back to back.


Command Day Secondary School Donates to Alma Mata

activities for the 20th reunion anniversary by the class of 2002 of Command Day Secondary School, Odogbo Barracks, Ibadan, the alumni of the school donated not less than 200 tables and chairs to the school


According to the Chairman of the planning committee, Mr. Siji Adekunle while giving his remarks recently during a courtesy visit held  at the conference room of the school, revealed that the willingness to give out was borne out  of the foundation which the school had laid for them


" All members of staff took deliberate steps to ensure that we were properly tutored, trained and prepared to take over the world" 


" No doubt, we were drilled, stretched, pruned, disciplined amidst challenges, yet we kept our dreams alive. 20 years after, we are here stronger and wiser.  Affirmatively, we  are bold  to say that the discipline of the years stayed with us"


Mr. Siji disclosed further that the main focus of the alumni was not just giving back to the alma mater but to assist the next generation to have access to quality education in a more conducive environment


Earlier in their separate remarks, the Commandant of the Institution, Lt. Col. U.A. Hamza appreciated the kind gestures of the alumni adding that they should continue with their good works. He added further that the sky is just the limit as he prayed that the association would continue to make positive impact in the society at large and also wax stronger by the day.


Similarly, the Vice Principal (Academics) of the School, Dr. Kalu Ndukwe reiterated that apart from setting the pace for the younger ones coming behind, he also emphasized on the need for alumni to continue to inspire them.


" You never can tell , you can be of assistance to one another. Building a kind of brotherhood  relationship in a way that will strengthen the relationship between the alumni and the students coming behind"


 Meanwhile the 2002 alumni set held a dinner at an event centre in Ibadan for the purpose of reuniting with old friends


The President of the association, Mr. Siji Adekunle  in his words stated that " we are gathered here today to reunite with ourselves, invited guests, spouses and our amiable teachers in the atmosphere of peace and tranquility"


He stressed further that the achievements of the alumni association  so far is an indication that the seeds of greatness planted over two  decades ago are already flourishing. 


Mr Siji also appreciated the old teachers present at the dinner  for spurring interests in the subjects taught while also acknowledging their words of encouragements.

Continue to Make Positive Impact on Women, Oyo SSG Charges Women in ICT




The Oyo State Government, through the Secretary to the State Governments, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun has charged women in Information Communication Technology to continue to make positive impact on women in Nigeria.

She stated this while hosting the State Chairman of Nigerian Women in Information Communication Technology, Oyo State Chapter , held at the SSG's Conference Room, Secretariat, Ibadan.

She enjoined the association to train more women in ICT, adding that, the State Government would find ways to support women in ICT in the State.

She said "some people believe that what women can do is to marry and have children, now women are professionals doing well in their various discipline".

The Secretary to the State Government said Government would collaborate with the ICT women association to make impact in women society.

She enjoined the executives to sensitised their members to see value in the association and what qualifies them to be a member.

In her remarks, the State Chairman (NIWIIT), Mrs Bose Owolabi called on qualified female Oyo State workers who use computer to do their work including the ICT teachers to join the association.

She said the association will create ICT training hub for the State School girls and market women where they can learn and developed to be I.T literate.

This is to Inform the General Public that Batch 34 Recruitment Exercise into the Nigerian Navy has been scheduled to hold on Saturday 8th, October, 2022 at Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Odogbo, Ojoo, Ibadan.


Shortlisted candidates for the examination whose names have been published at www.joinnigeriannavy.com are to report by 7:am at the Examination Centre earlier selected during the on-line registration.


Candidates will not be allowed to write the Examination at any Centre other than that selected during the on-line registration.


Eligible Male and Female indigenes of Oyo State whose names have been shortlisted are here by advised to report at 7:am with his/her writing materials at Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Odogbo, Ojoo, Ibadan, at 7:am prompt.
